Yes, we know. Rumours about a new iteration of Xbox hardware are coming thick and fast now and they’re all just little indicators which point to something we already know: Microsoft is working on a new Xbox. Of course they are. The rumours are unlikely to stop any time soon though, so get used to them. They’ll probably reach fever pitch just in time for the Next Gen PlayStation rumours to take over from them. That’ll be fun.
Anyway, this latest round of rumour is born out of a series of CVs (or resumés, if you’d prefer) in which certain current and former Microsoft employees make reference to “Next Gen” and are either explicitly tied to the Xbox brand or implicitly linked.
Jeff Falkner’s is probably the most explicit, he’s listed as “Xbox Next Gen Creative Director” but then, he worked on the tragically doomed Zune program, too. Hopefully the new games hardware will be a little better supported than that.
It’s all very tangentially linked from there onwards, ambiguous terms which could apply to new software iterations or console redesigns (like the 360 S redesign from last year) appear enough that we can imagine a whole new console but there is also room for Microsoft to deny it, as they will right up to the point when they’re ready to release it.
If you want to read the CVs for yourself, take a look at Supererogatory’s twitter feed and click through to them.
I hate the term “Xbox 720″, can we call it the “NextBox”?
