Paris St Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has played down talk of Liverpool-target Mamadou Sakho leaving, claiming he is like their Steven Gerrard.

Sahko, 23, is unsettled at PSG, where he has been since he was 12, and is keen to go, prompting interest from Liverpool, AC Milan, Napoli and Roma.

The French international centre-half has yet to play a competitive game this season and his current deal expires next summer.

Al-Khelaifi claims he has spoken to Sakho and has told him he does not want him to go.

"Sakho is a child of the club just like Steven Gerrard is at Liverpool," Al-Khelaifi told L'Equipe.

"It is hard to imagine him wearing another team's jersey. I'm a little surprised that he wants to leave.

"I had a discussion with him. My position is very clear and he knows it. We want to keep him and we will do everything to achieve that."

Liverpool news: Rodgers lines up Lescott bid

Liverpool are ready to reignite their interest in Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott.

The Reds were linked with the star earlier this summer but no deal ever materialised – with Kolo Toure signed on a free transfer instead.

But the injuries to Toure and Sebastian Coates have forced boss Brendan Rodgers’ hand, and he is keen to recruit at least one centre-back before the end of the transfer window.

Lescott has emerged as a target, with the England international set to be frozen out by the impending arrival of Martin Demichelis at the Etihad Stadium.

Lescott, who has started both of City’s opening two games, would cost around ￡7.5 million, but Rodgers would have to convince the Anfield money-men to cough up for a player who falls outside of their normal recruitment policy.

The 31-year-old’s age may yet put the buffers on any deal, but Rodgers is keen to inject his defence with both quality and experience.

Reports have claimed Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has ditched his Wayne Rooney chase and will now offer ￡30 million plus Fernando Torres for Luis Suarez.
After seeing two bids for Rooney rejected by United, Chelsea were expected to table a third offer after the two sides met on Monday evening.
However the Blues now appear ready to kill the deal, having been convinced the striker plans to stay at Old Trafford.
It appears Chelsea could instead use funds set aside for Rooney to finance an ambitious move for Suarez.
The west London side were reportedly ready to pay up to ￡30 million for Rooney, after having bids of lower value rejected.

  The former Arsenal man confirmed in brief interview that Daniel Levy had travelled to Amsterdam to broker a deal but insisted a deal had not yet to be struck.

  "Eriksen is going to talk with Tottenham now. Obviously, if it happens, we won’t be happy at all to lose him."

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has been linked with a surprise return to Liverpool while Arsenal are also interested in the Blues attacker, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

Citing reports in Spain, the Portuguese news outlet claims the Spaniard could be ready to leave Stamford Bridge after three and a half years at the west London club.

And Liverpool are reportedly keen to secure a cut-price return for a player they sold for ￡50m in the 2011 January transfer window. But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly also aware of Torres's potential availability and is considering a bid.

[size=1.125em]Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes that "one or two" more faces could be welcomed to Anfield before the close of the transfer window.

The Merseyside outfit have acquired defender Kolo Toure, forward Iago Aspas, midfielder Luis Alberto and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet during the window so far.

Any dealings will have to be completed by managerBrendan Rodgers within the next four days, but Gerrard believes that business can still be done on Merseyside.

"The changes the manager has made during the summer are really positive and hopefully there are still one or two more players to come in," the Liverpool Echo quotes Gerrard as saying.

Liverpool have opened talks with Sporting Lisbon over Tiago Ilori and Ajax for Toby Alderweireld as the club look to strengthen their defensive options.

The Reds, who are already without the injured Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates, lost Kolo Toure to a groin problem this week and are short of centre back cover.

But manager Brendan Rodgers hopes to rectify that with the double signing of Sporting ace Illori and Ajax hard man Alderweireld.

Illori, a Portugal under-20 international, was born in London and is keen to try his hand in the Premier League after breaking through in Lisbon.

Liverpool are believed to be ready to offer ￡6million for his services, and believe he would accept a switch to Anfield over the Spanish clubs who are tracking him.

A deal for Alderweireld is more complicated, with Atletico Madrid and Roma both already in negotiations over a switch, but the player has admitted his desire to play for Liverpool before – and that could be key.

Liverpool are expected to put in a ￡10million bid before the weekend, but consider PSG’s Mamadou Sakho as another option if the transfer doesn’t go ahead.
