Rumors are circulating today that Argentinian Maxi Rodriguez will meet with Brendan
Rodgers today to hand in a transfer request to allow a move back to his boyhood team Newell’s Old Boys.
Speculation arose earlier last month when Maxi was spotted in his home town of Rosario leading to suggestions the out-of-favour Midfielder might be tipped for a switch to Argentina.
The reported line is that Maxi has explained that “When Newells Old Club make an offer I would like to return but first have to return to Liverpool and they’ve got the final word on my transfer”
This has not been officially confirmed by the club as of so far and Maxi is due to attend the first round of pre-season training today.
Maxi found it hard to nail down first team football under Kenny, however could play a larger part in the squad with a larger fixture count this season due to the Europa League. A Kop favourite and never shy of poaching a goal, Maxi would surely be missed at Anfield.
However, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Argentine make a move back home, at 31 it cannot be argued that he will be approaching the end of his career. With just a short amount of time left on his contract, could it be the right time to cash in or even release the crowd favourite?
