Lower unit trust sales charges

PETALING JAYA: Effective next month, sales charges for investment in unit trusts by Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributors are expected to be slashed to not more than 3% from 5% to 6% now.

A source told StarBiz that the move was expected as the current charges were relatively high compared with other countries, and for the industry to be globally competitive, the upfront sales charges should come down.  

This would also reduce the cost of investment and improve returns as the current sales charges were eating into unit trust returns, he said, adding that the move, over time, would lower the overall sales charges in the industry.  

Pacific Mutual Fund Bhd chief executive officer and chief investment officer Michael Auyeung said the move was a positive development for the industry.  

Lowering sales charges would provide investors a quicker path to garnering returns on their investment, and might encourage many to make regular withdrawals.  


“Distributors who earnestly assess what the EPF is trying to do for its contributors will eventually see that this move will benefit everyone,” Auyeung said.   

From the perspective of unit trust management companies, most players would welcome the lowering of any hurdle that helped change investors' mindsets and allowed them to realise that unit trusts were an extremely viable investment and pension planning instrument, he said.  

Furthermore, he said, the excuse that high upfront fees were keeping pensioned investors away had been partly overcome.   

Auyeung said when news emerged that EPF investors were losing money in unit trusts, Pacific Mutual conducted an in-depth study of its own investor base. “Total gains made by our investors between 2003 and 2005 were RM41.32mil while losses amounted to RM65,000. Most of the losses were incurred by recent investors who had yet to recover the fees they paid upfront,” he noted.  

An industry player said: “Those unit trust management companies that rely heavily on agents would in the short term see a negative impact on their businesses.   “This is because the agents' customers mainly comprise EPF contributors. The lowering of sales charges would affect the agents' commissions which, in turn, would affect the companies' businesses in the short term.''

GRACE PERIOD FOR RENEWAL OF AGENCY CONTRACT AND FMUTM MEMBERSHIP

We wish to inform you that effective 1 January 2008, FMUTM have issued a circular informing that the grace period for UTC to renew their registration after expiry will be reduced to one (1) month, before being automatically terminated.

For example, UTC registration expiring in January 2008 will be terminated by end of February 2008, if renewal is not done in February. Thereafter, UTC will need to re-register as a new agent should the person intend to market and distribute unit trust.

At the same time, we would also like to take this opportunity to remind all UTCs that failure to renew the Contract of Agency and FMUTM membership will result in UTC having an invalid Authorization card and thus are not authorized to market and distribute unit trusts.

As such, we urge all UTC to check and ensure that your memberships are renewed.

Agent Registration Fee

In order to facilitate smoother and more efficient processing of UTC who wishes to register as an agent with Public Mutual, we are implementing some changes on our current operational procedures.

A.  New Agent Registration Fee

With effect 1 January 2008, agent must bank in the registration fees of RM247.50 themselves to any of our Public Bank branches before submitting the new agent application form together with the bank in slip to Public Mutual branches.

Please note that the Public Bank account no is: 3-0903816-36.

Agents are advised to ensure the following procedures are adhered to for easy processing and identification:-

1.      One bank-in-slip for one agent per payment
2.      Name and NRIC no of the prospective agent must be clearly indicated on the bank in slip
3.      Bank in slip should be placed as the top copy together with the duly completed new agent application form for submission to branches.

Agents can collect the sales kit and manuals from branches upon presenting the complete set of new agent application form together with the bank-in slip.

B.  New Agent Registration Fee

As for agents' renewal fees, agents can submit renewal fees to the branches. Agents are advised not to bank in renewal fees into Public Bank branches directly as Branch Managers recommendation are required for certain renewal cases.

Please take note on the above changes and be guided accordingly.

还是可以做的。
因为没有多余现金投资的人可以考虑用这个管道。

请问现在的服务费是多少?
促销价5%,促销其间申请DDI5.25%,不是促销价5.45%,是吗?
怎么没有任何通告的?

服务费 5。5%
lauching 5%, lauching DDI 5.25%

5.45%是之前lauching,当时的服务费为6.5%
