KUALA LUMPUR: The public has urged the authorities to re-examine wide-scale reopening of schools, following the emergence of Covid-19 cases and clusters in the facilities which reopened last week.

Shia Shuk Wah Sophia said the Education Ministry was "not thinking wisely" by reopening all the schools at the same time.

"In Malaysia, our schools are very packed with students just like my school, it has 1,000 plus students. The best thing to do is to do a rotation attendance for students from different standards or forms, rather than everybody coming to school at the same time.

"My school's attendance is nearly 95 per cent so you can imagine how packed the school is with the students and teachers. No matter how we want to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP), it is not easy as there are too many pupils.


"What is everyone thinking? If the kids' parents are infected and then they spread it in the schools, you think a mask and cleaning your hands once in a while is all it takes to keep the kids safe???

"How is a single teacher in a class of 20 or 30 going to make sure everyone follows the SOP at all times?

"Close the schools until all the adults have been vaccinated! It's a disaster waiting to happen to our children," she posted on Facebook.

Gayatri Devi Chellapan said parents would keep sending their children to school until quarantines are confirmed; and such situations would recur at the expense of all.

"Imagine: every time there is a suspected case, the affected class or teacher would need to be quarantined. There won't be any class for the students who have no online option and the same goes for the teacher.

"If this happens too often, what is the purpose of reopening schools? Due to this, most parents will keep sending kids to school unless it's confirmed they need to quarantine them."

Simon Lee, however, urged parents to be responsible while urging authorities to compound those who were lax.

"As a parent, you do not allow your children to attend school if; the child is unwell or there are family members living in the household who are sick or whose status is still unconfirmed.

康乐２校阳了,六年级学生，开学还没一周！全班同学必须去插鼻子，感谢后门政府的贡献！

继巴生共和小学以及巴生兴华小学，于本月6日和8日，分别有一名一年级和二年级学生证实确诊后，如今康乐二校也有一名六年级学生确诊。

康乐二校行政处今日午夜在面子书发文，证实于昨日（11日）下午，接获 6I班一名家长通知，证实其孩子对冠病呈阳性反应。

校方按照教育局和卫生局的指示，决定让6I班学生从今日起（12日）至本月23日期间，进行居家隔离，让学生在家中上网课。

“至于其他班级的学生，则可以照常（返校）上课，校方会继续加强防疫措施及为全校进行消毒。”

卫生局将会安排有关班级全体学生，于近期内到邻近的政府诊所进行检验。”

校方也敬请家长时时提醒孩子，“用餐时，脱下口罩不说话；说话时，必须戴上口罩。”

据悉，确诊的六年级学生，疑似是因为孩子到过家长工作的职场，遭工人传染而染疫。

自3月1日起学生返校上课至今，康乐二校一直都有严谨地根据卫生局和教育部的防疫标准作业程序，包括落实防疫四步骤，即戴口罩、量体温、勤洗手及保持人身距离。
