聪明的梁德明一句都没说赌博、不过死蠢的不知道涉及金钱的任何注头都被视作赌博了…
]‘Superman’ Hew challenged to pay up if Malaysia doesn’t go bankrupt - Nation | The Star OnlinePETALING JAYA: Gerakan has challenged former DAP leader Hew Kuan Yew (pic) to donate RM5mil to charity if the country does not go bankrupt by 2020 like he claimed.
In a statement on Tuesday, Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Liang Teck Meng said Hew had incited fear among Malaysians over his "baseless" allegations.
"With the presence of lawyers and the media, I would like to challenge Hew Kuan Yau to a written promise following his claim.
"If Malaysia does not become bankrupt in 2020 as claimed by Hew, then he should donate RM5mil to a charitable organisation nominated by me.
"However, if Malaysia is bankrupt by 2020, a small group of businessmen and I will donate RM5mil to a charitable organisation nominated by him," he said.
Hew, who is known as "Superman" for his fondness for wearing T-shirts with the superhero's crest at DAP events, is believed to have made the remark during a recent speech.
Based on a video being circulated on social media, the speech in Cantonese looks to have been made at a coffee shop.
The video was made on Sunday in Raub.
Hew was recorded saying that the economy "has gone downhill" since Malaysia achieved independence.
"Malaysia will go bankrupt by 2020," he said.
"This is a challenge to the credibility of Hew and DAP who constantly use this issue as their main topic during their ceramah to confuse the people and fulfil their political agenda," said Liang.
Liang, who is also a Simpang Renggam MP, said the economy has been growing steadily over the past years, especially from 2009 until June 2016, where the annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to reach RM1.2tril, three times what the country earned in 2003.
"It is only logical as the national income increases, we will be able to hold more debt. The current ratio of 53.4% of our national debt to GDP is still under control," he said.
Liang added that it was "absurd" for Malaysia to become bankrupt if the ratio surpasses 55% as speculated by certain parties.
"If we didn't go bankrupt when our ratio reached 103.4% in 1985, how could we go bankrupt at 55%? What more if it is only 53.4%?" he said.
Hew left DAP in July.
He stirred controversy for playing up racial issues at a ceramah in Batu Kitang during the Sarawak state election.
