Goh Ah Chai was nominated to be a part of Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) Executive Committee for the 2014- 2018 term during the FAM’s 50th Congress on 25th May 2014. He is the Chairman of the Referee’s Committee at FAM. He currently serves as the General Secretary of Chinese Malaysian Football Association. Goh has been serving the Football Association of Malaysia in various capacities since the early 80s. He has contributed his services with the Finance Committee between 1982 -1984, Gates and Ticketing Committee between 1995-2001 and was a part of the Competitions Committee between 2001 -2010. In addition to that, Goh also served as the Assistant Manager for the National Team from 1981 until 1985. Between year 2000- 2007, Goh also served as the General Secretary of Kuala Lumpur Football Association.
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Goh Ah Chai, the chairman of the referees committee with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), passed away on Thursday. He was 70. He was a founding member of the Federal Territory FA in 1974. Ah Chai also served the FAM in various roles since the 80s. He was in the finance committee (1982-84), gates and ticketing committee (1995-2001) and competitions committee (2001-2010). He was re-elected into the FAM executive committee in 2014. He was appointed assistant manager of the national team from 1981 to 1985.
He was also general secretary of the Kuala Lumpur FA (2000-07). He leaves behind wife Datin Loke Swee Yee, two sons and a daughter. FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Affendy Hamzah described his passing as a big loss to the nation. “I’ve known him for a long time. He is a veteran in Malaysian football, with more than four decades of service. He is a well-liked person,” said Affendy. “It is sad that we have lost a good friend. I’d like to convey our condolence to his family.”
The wake service will be held at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur, Friday at 7pm. The cortege will leave from the centre on Sunday for cremation at the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam.
