馬勞對李總理去G20會議有甚麼看法?

ANTALYA, Turkey: The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) in the Asia-Pacific as well as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the US and Europe are the "next best option" to multilateral deals, and allow progress to be made towards trade liberalisation, said Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Mr Lee made this point in the third and final working session with world leaders at the G20 Leader's Summit in Antalya, Turkey on Monday (Nov 16), where he spoke on international trade.

Prime Minister Lee said progress of the Doha Round of World Trade Organisation talks has been disappointing. He cited the complexity of issues and the interests of participants being too diverse to strike a single comprehensive, optimal deal.

Mr Lee said countries should see regional and plurilateral trade liberalisation as positive developments, rather than as threats to the global trading system. He added that despite political pressures at home, governments must "make sure that our people feel that they are taken care of, and that their concerns are acknowledged and addressed".

At the same time, he said, they must have the political courage to explain and persuade their population that trade benefits all.

Both US President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister David Cameron made reference to Mr Lee’s comments on intervention at the meeting. President Obama praised Mr Lee, saying he did a "fantastic job" with his deliberations on plurilateral and multilateral agreements.

Mr Lee also addressed the topic of terrorism at a working dinner with world leaders on Sunday night. Ahead of his arrival at the summit, he had commented that the recent terror attacks in Paris pointed to the relevance and urgency of discussions in Antalya.

Sitting down with members of the Singapore media before he wrapped up his trip on Monday, Mr Lee said there was “no disagreement" between G20 leaders on the urgency of the problem of extremism and that there is a "substantial degree of cooperation" going on between countries.

"We don’t often talk about the cooperation because a lot of this is on the intelligence, security side. So by nature, it is low-key but it is happening and I have no doubt that after Paris, this week, when we were here over the last two days, the leaders have been talking to one another and working out further ways they can cooperate to deal with the scourge. It’s on the top of everyone’s minds.”
