McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh admitted that he was "worried about the pace" after a poor showing during the first day of practice ahead of Sunday's Australian Grand Prix, admitting Jenson Button and Sergio Perez were struggling.
McLaren has made significant changes over the winter and while Whitmarsh remains confident it is increasingly clear the season has come too early.
"I think we should be worried about the pace," a glum-looking Whitmarsh told Sky Sports. "It's a tough day at the offices. We're lacking grip and have got poor ride. There's a lot of head scratching at the moment. As of today we are still undoubtedly struggling."
Sam Michael, the sporting director,agreed with Whitmarsh and admitted McLaren was "not where we need to be at this point in time.
"We still believe [ the changes] will be good for the course of the season. But we are still unoptimised in the areas we need to be, so we still have some work to do on the car. But it's a long season."
Button and Perez finished ninth and 11th in the morning practice and then 11th and 13th in the second session.

这个赛季的DRS好像改了，而且现在轮胎也是有变化，如果要剩胎，排位赛就必须放弃。 |

维特尔的最快圈速不是在轮胎的最佳情况下做的，而且好像是没有KERS的时候。
今年法拉利，奔驰和莲花实力相当，车手决定关键了。所以今年的车手整容很重要，现在看起来奔驰占了不少优势。 |

車手在這三只車隊可能會決定誰是第二，紅牛又來一騎絕塵就傷心了，哈哈哈
都不知到為何這些大廠研發研發研發還是不比adrian newey 大腦強。
應該不會像2011吧？
希望大廠怎樣都會追近一些，再讓f1三個金牌車手表演吧。

McLaren 的idea是去年的車是很快，如果base on 去年的車改一些東西再帶來2013，前面會很快，可是季中賽車開發就到頂限了。紅牛benz做的方式好像偏向“舊車改進”這條路。就不懂誰的說法對，是賽車潛力無限對，還是新車新思維才是王道 我們就看戲對了。
不過話說回來，2013已經是v8自然吸氣的最後一年了，拿一輛全新的新車出來玩應該也要有很多資源才有本事玩吧？ 本帖最后由 outpace 于 16-3-2013 09:38 AM 编辑

2014 Rule changesTechnical regulations- The 2014 season will see the introduction of a new engine formula, with the sport moving towards a turbocharged, 1.6 litre V6 format with an 8-speed gearbox.[1] The rules dictate the use of a ninety-degree engine bank, with fixed crankshaft axis and mounting points for the chassis, while the engines will be limited to 15,000rpm. The 2014 specification of engines must last for at least 4,000 km (2,500 mi), in comparison to the pre-2014 engines, which were required to last for just 2,000 km (1,200 mi).[44]
- The Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), first introduced in 2009, will be incorporated into the design of the engine; its function as a supplementary power source will be taken by the introduction of the Thermal Energy Recovery System (TERS).[12] The TERS unit will give drivers an additional 161 bhp (120 kW) for thirty-three seconds per lap, compared to the KERS units used prior to 2014, which gave drivers an 80 bhp (60 kW) for six seconds per lap.[44]
- The 2014 regulations require the use of lower noses than in previous years, in the interests of safety. The tip of the nose would have been no more than 185mm above the ground,[45] in comparison to the 550mm allowed in 2012.[46] The original rules—first published in August 2011—also called for a variety of bodywork changes aimed at cutting downforce, most notably through the use of narrower front wings, and a shallower angle to the main plane of rear wings. These additional changes were formally abandoned in December 2012,[47] but the requirement that cars be built with a nose no more than 185mm above the ground was retained.[48]
- In order to promote fuel efficiency, cars will be required to carry no more than 100 kg (220 lb) of fuel at the start of the race, 30% less than in 2013.[44]
- The position of the exhaust outlet will change so that it is now angled upwards toward the rear wing instead of downwards to face the rear diffuser so as to make the practice of using exhaust blown diffusers—passing exhaust gasses over the rear diffuser to improve the car's downforce—extremely difficult to achieve.[44]
