红牛领队驳斥小汉并肩维特尔说 拒07迈凯轮悲剧

新赛季揭幕战站维特尔问鼎冠军,汉密尔顿紧随其后获得亚军,当澳大利亚站大幕落下后,关于小汉转会红牛的传闻非但没有平息,反而有愈演愈烈的趋势。

这也不难理解,毕竟红牛车队实力雄厚,而澳大利亚人韦伯却与这家豪门显得很不般配,这位老将也只得到一年合同,而十分玄妙的是,汉密尔顿与迈凯轮的合同据说也在2012年到期。想想看,红牛的RB7火星车,维特尔+小汉的梦幻组合,F1岂不是他们的天下?然而就在这周探访银石赛道时,红牛领队霍纳却这样的梦幻组合不感冒,他的理由是:让这两人并肩作战是不明智之举。

老话说得好,一山不容二虎,霍纳深知这个道理,他甚至搬出了07年迈凯轮因为汉密尔顿和阿隆索同处一队产生内耗的例子。“让维特尔和汉密尔顿这两位重量级的车手同在一个屋檐下,简直太难了。我们都知道阿隆索和汉密尔顿的故事,强强组合不见得是好事,有可能是给自己找了一个火药桶。”

当然,红牛内部目前也不是没有隐患,维特尔逐渐坐稳了老大的位置,但身为二当家的韦伯并不甘心。红牛能做到手心手背都是肉吗?霍纳给出了积极的答案:“他们的职业生涯完全泾渭分明,是一对能够互补的车手,他们在年龄上相差了11岁,换句话说,韦伯拥有更丰富的人生阅历。”霍纳的话不无道理,尽管韦伯在上赛季与小弟维特尔的竞争中也有过不快,可毕竟他与维特尔不是同一时代选手,而小汉和维特尔就不同了。

正如霍纳所言:“汉密尔顿和维特尔这两位车手年龄相仿,他们都处在职业生涯的起步阶段,谁都知道汉密尔顿是一位才华横溢的车手,他在迈凯轮过得很快乐,我们很荣幸人们把这么一位优秀的青年才俊和红牛联系在一起。当然,如果他想为红牛效力,红牛无法做到置之不理,但我知道他和迈凯轮还有合同,还会继续在那里效力。”

小汉加盟红牛,对于红牛而言有利有弊,尽管霍纳不想多谈,但一切皆有可能,这位红牛车队负责人也这位认为:“维特尔12岁时就与红牛联系在一起,没有人想打他的主意,但谁知道未来呢?你不能排除这个可能,就像人们现在把汉密尔顿与我们放在一起,因为这就是强强组合。”

世界金融公司成红牛赞助商 赛季签百万美元合同

2011赛季红牛车队在赛道上依旧强劲,自然而然,商业号召力也是毋庸置疑,人在家中坐,赞助商就主动能找上门来。近日来自《Sportspromedia》网站的消息,红牛宣布与FXDD达成合作协议。

对于大多数人而言,FXDD都是一个陌生的名字,除非你是财经界的专业人士。作为世界领先的外汇交易公司,FXDD(FX Direct Dealer)拥有40年的经营历史。于1973年在瑞士股票交易市场挂牌上市。

这家外汇交易公司早在2010赛季就是红牛的赞助商,由于红牛车队在上赛季获得车手和车队双料冠军,该公司不出意外的选择继续合作。新赛季,这家公司的logos将出现在红牛RB7赛车的车鼻上,维特尔和韦伯身披的战袍上也将印有这家公司的标志。

对于这次合作,公司业务发展副总裁埃里克表示:“能与红牛车队继续合作让我们感到高兴,上赛季红牛取得了梦幻般的战绩,而本赛季看起来也值得期待,作为世界冠军的合作伙伴,我们也将以不同的方式继续与我们的客户携手投入到这项激动人心的赛事。”

2011赛季红牛与该公司签订了100万美元的赞助合同,车队负责人霍纳对于这次合作给予了肯定:“世界金融公司和F1合作是完美的结合,两者都需要冒风险,才能够赢得最后的胜利。这次红牛与该公司继续合作让我们满意,我们希望我们的合作和友谊继续下去,能让我们的合作伙伴在这个赛季得到更多的利益。

前银石赛道冠军赫伯特:小汉和维特尔玩脑力游戏

约翰尼·赫伯特曾经是英国人的骄傲。1995年的英国大奖赛上,人们本来是去看达蒙·希尔夺冠的,但没想到他出尽了风头将冠军收入怀中。同年,他还在意大利也拿到了冠军,在车手积分榜上排名第四。如今,即使退役了,他也在F1评论界里有一席之地。

“我认为刘易斯(汉密尔顿)在澳大利亚拿到的冠军很关键,这会给塞巴斯蒂安(维特尔)很大的压力。而且,我相信刘易斯正试图将这种压力通过各种方式传达出来,这就是所谓的‘冠军之间的脑力小游戏’。”

据说,汉密尔顿在前两天还将维特尔比喻成曼塞尔。后者是F1最伟大的车手之一,曾经参加过191个分站赛,拿到31个分站赛冠军,1992年成为F1车手总冠军。这位赛车名宿一直为英国车迷所热爱,他们给他取了个“狮子”的绰号。把维特尔和这样一个人相提并论,这应该是恭维之举了。不过,赫伯特却从中看出了门道。

“这听起来不坏,”在接受422race.com采访时,赫伯特说。“不过,我知道这是刘易斯的小伎俩。我也知道他这几天一直在说,红牛车队要是想要提升竞争力,就必须使用KERS系统。但红牛对KERS的应用并不是特别熟练,这可能会影响到他们在马来西亚的正赛。这些都是赛道之外的游戏,他正试图打乱塞巴斯蒂安和红牛的思想和战术意图。在F1的比赛当中,这样的场面经常发生。”

“我喜欢刘易斯和他的比赛方式,尽管有时候他会犯很多不应该的错误,但他会马上从中吸取经验,这是他能够不断取得进步的背景原因。不过,塞巴斯蒂安是另外意中人,他永远都只做自己应该做的工作。”

英国人说他不认为迈凯轮比红牛慢多少,而且汉密尔顿和阿隆索也不见得就没有机会去冲击总冠军。一切都还没有定论,无论明战还是暗战都刚刚开始。

霍纳批评迈凯轮使盘外招 打心理战违背竞争公平

在前英国车手、曾经的银石赛道冠军约翰尼·赫伯特指出汉密尔顿正在试图跟维特尔打心理战的同时,红牛车队也意识到了这一点。红牛经理霍纳在本周一就表示,“迈凯轮使了好多盘外招,这有损于F1的公平正赛原则”。

在过去的几周当中,汉密尔顿似乎显得话特别的多。他先是批评红牛只不过是“一介饮料贩子”,然后又大张旗鼓地表示阿隆索是他一生中最重要敌人,维特尔根本算不得他的对手。但转过天来,他又说维特尔是个伟大的车手。这些话一出,整个舆论界和赛车界都为之哗然。不过,红牛经理霍纳却很清醒,他认为这是汉密尔顿和迈凯轮使的伎俩。在他看来,银箭车队看到了红牛和维特尔具有统治力的表现,觉得必须应该做点什么事情来延缓这种势头。而这些“事情”,就是心理战。

“无论在什么情况下,只要你是第一名,就肯定会成为别人攻击的目标。”霍纳被邀请去观看新银石赛道,在那里他对现场的媒体说道。“塞巴斯蒂安(维特尔)是F1有史以来最年轻的世界冠军,他从刘易斯(汉密尔顿)手里抢到了这个荣誉。他们两个都是非常具有天赋的年轻车手,像这样一对竞争对手之间不可避免地会有超越比赛之外的‘交手’。当然,车队之间也会有同样的情况发生。”

“这是车队竞争的一部分。”霍纳似乎看得很开,但言谈之间仍然有着冷嘲热讽的口气。“当你跑得比别人快,那些落在你身后的人就会忍不住说些什么。他们把目光和言谈的焦点都落在你身上,有的时候是批评,也有的时候是恭维,例如说‘你的前鼻翼真不错’、‘你真是个伟大的车手’或者其他一些事情。当我们听到这种恭维的时候,常常会觉得很受用,但正是在这种时候你就会在备战和比赛中分心。”

红牛为避免矛盾给韦伯换新车 大马站将考验车队

当地时间4日,红牛车队经理霍纳表示将会在马来西亚大奖赛上给韦伯更换一辆新赛车。在今年的首站澳大利亚大奖赛上,维特尔以绝对的优势从杆位出发并最终夺冠,可韦伯却最终只以第五的名次完赛,这样的差距让澳大利亚人有点不爽。为了平衡两人的成绩差距,更换赛车势在难免。

“我们已经发现了问题的所在,”霍纳说,“马克(韦伯)的赛车有点问题,是在最初调教时产生的一些小问题。虽然看起来很小,但却影响到了他在澳大利亚的速度。这些在马来西亚大奖赛上都会得到改变,我们的工程师的工作做得很好。在雪邦赛道,我希望他和塞巴斯蒂安(维特尔)之间更近一些。”

在澳大利亚大奖赛结束之后,韦伯曾经在自己的专栏中写道:“比以往任何时候都要艰难,我努力控制赛车希望获得更快的速度。但是我的轮胎状况不是很理想,胎温要比塞巴斯蒂安的高很多。”基于这短话,有些人提出的红牛车队厚此薄彼。对此,霍纳给予了否认。“除了我说的赛车问题之外,我们没有什么其他可解释的了。事实就是马克的赛车的调教有点问题,因为两辆赛车虽然基本配置相同,但在细节方面还是有不一样的地方。”

与此同时,霍纳还否认了《悉尼先驱早报》上个月的一篇报道。该报道称,在澳大利亚大奖赛排位赛之前,有一群激进的粉丝闯进红牛车队的车库,破坏了一辆红牛赛车的空气动力学配件。“根本没有这样的事情发生,”红牛经理斩钉截铁。

对于接下来即将开始的马来西亚大奖赛,霍纳说将是对他们车队的巨大考验。“雪邦赛道的场地条件和阿尔伯特公园赛道完全不一样,天状况更是难以预测。我们要根据具体的情况来决定到时候使用什么样的轮胎,因为场地可能会非常热,也可能因为下雨而显得湿滑。”

澳洲站成功增加信心 雷诺本周大马赛誓再创佳绩

莲花-雷诺车队在澳大利亚分站上取得了不错的成绩,这大大增强了车队的信心,领队布利尔更扬言,雷诺在接下来的比赛中将会继续与传统强队竞争。

在两周前的澳大利亚分站上,俄罗斯车手佩特洛夫有一个很好开局,他获得了季军,雷诺甚至跑在了法拉利、梅赛德斯GP的前面。接下来,F1比赛将会来到马来西亚上演,法拉利和梅赛德斯GP对自己的赛车潜力很有信心,而雷诺方面亦有信心在本周再次创造奇迹。

谈到雷诺在澳大利亚所取得的成绩,布利尔仍然很自豪,他说:“老实说,这反映了我们是有实力的。今天的发展是很重要,在争夺冠军的过程中,团队不断研发技术以及提升赛车实力是至关重要的。”

“我认为,在马来西亚,情况有可能会变得很困难,并且在本本站之后,情况将会进一步明朗,因此,澳大利亚的情况并不能代表整个赛季。”

为了提升R31的实力,莲花-雷诺车队将在马来西亚分站推出一些升级套件,布利尔认为,R31来到雪邦赛道将仍会处于一个不错的位置。

布利尔补充说:“是的,在澳大利亚,我们显然是在一个有利的位置,我们可以与强队进行争夺。”

车手方面,老将海德菲尔德在澳大利亚分站没有取得好成绩,他说:“你总是会期待下一个分站,目前我的目标是忘记澳大利亚分站,并期待着马来西亚的到来。无论如何,我了解车队的程序,我相信这个周末是让人兴奋的。”

另一方面,佩特洛夫说:“我们的竞争对手确实较强大,但我们仍需要等待下几站比赛,之后就可以看到真实的情况,我们知道,迈凯轮和红牛的都很强,我们会继续推进。”

红牛辟谣小汉加盟流言 迈凯轮内乱让霍纳却步

2011年4月5日 红牛车队总经理霍纳出面否认有关他们在明年想要签约汉密尔顿的传言,同时暗示,把小汉和维特尔塞在同一支车队内是不明智的。因为他们已经见识过阿隆索与汉密尔顿搭档后的惨烈,所以红牛暂时还不想冒这个险。

此前当迈凯轮车队在冬季测试中表现得一塌糊涂的时候,围场内有传言说汉密尔顿正在考虑其他车队——今天霍纳在接受采访时对此敬而远之,他还说,让汉密尔顿和维特尔做队友将导致2007年迈凯轮时期时期的悲剧——当时汉密尔顿与阿隆索做队友搞得车队气氛异常紧张,甚至有流言称阿隆索在间谍门中出卖了车队为的就是给迈凯轮一个教训。

“很难想象一支车队同时拥有两个汉密尔顿和维特尔这样能力的人在同一屋檐下共事。”霍纳说,“他们两会引发车队内的火拼,就像当年我们看到阿隆索和汉密尔顿的组合一样。所以我们对于现有的车手组合很满意,如果事态有变到时候再说。”

但霍纳为了把话说圆满,也同时否认红牛车队目前维特尔和韦伯的车手组合处于两个不同档次,“他们处于各自职业生涯的不同阶段,两人的竞争很和谐。韦伯和维特尔之间有11岁的年龄差距,11年的人生经历是很有价值的。而汉密尔顿和维特尔,两人就差一到两岁,依然处于自己职业生涯的早期。”

霍纳还坦言,他认为未来几年汉密尔顿都不会加盟红牛车队:“汉密尔顿是一名很有天赋的车手,很显然,他现在迈凯轮过得很开心,而我们则对于现有的车手组合很满意。当然,如果他哪天想为红牛开车的话,那么我们也不能忽视一个像他那样有才的车手。但据我所知,他与迈凯轮有好几年合同,我预计他会在那里过上相当一段时间。”冬季测试的时候,汉密尔顿还因为他的“饮料车队”言论招来了两队之间的一池口水,现在的饮料车队让老牌强队显得迟暮许多。

不过霍纳也没有将小汉加盟的门给堵死:“任何车队和车手之间的关系都是双向的,这也是为何我们目前的车手关系如此和谐的原因了。维特尔在12岁时就签约红牛车队了。未来会怎样谁知道呢,你不能排除任何可能,不过要签约必须两边都有强烈的愿望。”

F1大马站备忘录:正赛16点 维特尔力争连冠

北京时间4月4日消息, F1新赛季第二站比赛马来西亚站将于本周末在雪邦赛道激情上演。首战大获全胜的红牛车队将在这里继续接受其他各支车队的挑战,对于去年在这里就成功夺冠的维特尔来说,他非常有望在这里完成连庄的目标,从而在赛季开始后不久就拉开与其他竞争对手之间的积分差距。

雪邦吉隆坡赛道是1999年新增加的一站大奖赛,这里的一切设施都堪称一流,同时拥有很长的一个维修赛道,赛道也富有多样性,因此对每一位车手都是一个挑战。从赛道的缩略图来看,马力大而且悬挂好的赛车在这里更有优势。如今的雪邦赛道一共有15个弯道、8个直道,最高时速可达320公里,尽管布局非常的宽松,但是数据显示要在这条赛道上超车并不容易。

在去年本站比赛中,红牛车队的维特尔轻松摘走冠军,红牛车队完成了1+2的方程式,今年他们依然将是夺冠的最大热门。红牛领队霍纳日前已经承认他们将在本站比赛中启用KERS系统,从RB7首站比赛中表现出来的速度优势看,只要他们赛车的稳定性不出现问题,其他车队想要挑战他们几乎就是一个不可能完成的任务。

迈凯轮车队的汉密尔顿日前表示“雪邦将为各支车队的实力对比提供一份清晰的图画”,对于在揭幕站中获得亚军的他来说,想要在本站比赛中保持这一成绩具有不小的难度,除了红牛的强大车队,首站比赛中发挥不佳的法拉利也放出话来要在本站比赛中完成反弹,可以预见三支车队在这里的争夺将会十分激烈。值得一提的是:雪邦一直以来都是法拉利的福地,他们曾在1999年-2001年完成这里的三连冠,2008年莱科宁也曾在这里登上最高领奖台。

除了三大车队之外,奔驰与雷诺的第四车队之争也非常具有看点,奔驰首站比赛全军覆没本站自然不甘心再居人后,而雷诺车队的佩德罗夫在澳洲爆冷登上了领奖台,舒马赫和罗斯博格将在这里担当起帮助车队吹响反击冲锋号的重任。此外,在澳洲表现出色但是却被罚掉成绩的索伯、进步势头明显的红牛二队也将各自为积分展开努力。在雪邦的高速赛道上,在KERS和可变尾翼的共同作用下,我们有望看到一站充满了超车场面的精彩比赛。(禁区灵狐)

霍纳勉励韦伯追上队友 称维特尔卫冕之路堪忧

2011年4月5日 红牛车队的总经理霍纳表示,他对韦伯跟上队友的节奏很有信心,本周的马来西亚站他希望韦伯有上乘表现。在对韦伯的赛车进行体检之后并没有发现机械故障,赛车的设定问题会在本站得到解决。

红牛车队的两位车手在墨尔本站的表现可谓天壤之别,维特尔领先队友韦伯0.866秒拿到杆位,卫冕冠军以绝对优势拿到上一站冠军,而第三位发车的韦伯仅以第五名完赛。

车队在经过对韦伯赛车的检查之后并没有发现机械故障,并确认是由于赛车设定上的问题导致了两者速度上的差距,而且韦伯的赛车由于此还导致了轮胎的过早衰竭。

“我们在赛后对韦伯的赛车进行了检查发现,他的赛车设定有问题,到了马来西亚我们将会做出调整,这会让两个车手之间差距缩小的。但我们认为这不是两人差距的全部原因。”霍纳说到。“由于两人的差距过于明显,而在这之前从未相差那么多,因此我们认为韦伯的赛车应该是遇到麻烦了。”

同时,霍纳也对维特尔今年开局的强势表现提出了表扬,并认为这是他卫冕冠军的坚实基础,也是他走向成熟的标志。“很显然,大家都对维特尔有很高的期待——‘你今年必须拿冠军!’——拿到今年的首个冠军后这样的期待一点都没有改变,但是多少可以让他释放不少的压力。”霍纳说到,“维特尔也对自己施加了更大的压力去重复夺冠的过程。”

虽然维特尔的首站轻松夺冠,但是霍纳并不认为红牛会在今年像揭幕战那样顺利。“很多人都在奉承我们,现在全年十九站比赛才进行了一站,”霍纳说。“还有很长的路要走,例如迈凯轮已经获得了巨大的进步,法拉利也在追,夺冠之路必然充满艰苦,我们仅仅是开了个好头而已。”

MotoP罗西新战驹 杜卡迪2011款新车GP11

本周三,杜卡迪车队发布新款赛车GP11。意大利车手瓦伦蒂诺-罗西将驾驶这台新战驹征战2011MotoGP赛季。



杜卡迪车队技术总监介绍,GP11的引擎油门曲线相比前作更平滑,空气动力学方面降低了阻力可以提高极速。对于备受关注的前叉设计,《汽车运动》报道称GP11使用了42mm规格的产品,而非48mm规格。但是杜卡迪官方给出的前叉技术规格是48mm。

车迷们可以看得出,今年的GP11赛车涂装设计非常华丽。据称涂装设计来自Aldo Drudi,是一位著名的意大利头盔和车身设计师。

地震严重破坏赛道 MotoGP日本站延迟到十月

北京时间3月16日消息,国际摩托车联合会(FIM)宣布原定于4月24日举行的MotoGP日本大奖赛因为大海啸的原因将移期至十月二日举行。

国际摩联今天早些时候证实,原定于4月24日举行的日本大奖赛将不会如期举行,因为上周发生的地震和海啸已经将这个国家的很一大部分摧毁,同时也面临着核泄漏的威胁。

国际摩联同时也确定了日本大奖赛将移期至十月份的第一个周末,正好将其安排在阿拉贡大奖赛和澳大利亚大奖赛之间那长达一个月的间歇期中。

本田悲观新赛季MotoGP表现 队内损耗影响战力

北京时间3月17日消息,MotoGP日本厂商本田高级技术总监中本修平日前表示虽然本田旗下的车队在冬季测试中表现抢眼,但并不期望本田会在本周末的揭幕战上一骑绝尘。而美国传奇车手,前500cc组冠军凯文-舒旺兹认为本田旗下两位主将斯托纳和佩德罗萨的内斗可能会严重伤害车队的利益。

就在本田信心十足准备新赛季的揭幕战时,美国传奇车手,前500cc组1993年冠军凯文-舒旺兹却担心本田的两位夺冠热门佩德罗萨和斯托纳的争斗会给车队带来消极影响。“这是一只全新的车队,拥有全新的赛车,但这一切都会变得十分微妙。”他告诉《汽车运动》杂志,“斯托纳面临的压力是,他的队友佩德罗萨在这支车队里面呆了更长的时间,车队很有可能倾向于佩德罗萨,而不是斯托纳。这些都是斯托纳不得不考虑的事情,如果车队不给他施加战术上的压力,我想,他一定会大干一场。我想,随着他俩的竞争越来越胶着并趋向于白热化时,他们可能会发生矛盾。”

最后,舒旺兹希望他们不要像2006年海登与佩德罗萨那样互相炫耀攀比实力。因为这样很可能导致车手犯错——哪怕是很小的一个错误,都会留给对手更大的夺冠空间给本田车队带来损失。

The Repsol Honda rider led the 20 minute. Sunday warm up session in which track conditions had been affected by a heavy rain shower earlier in the morning.

Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) was second quickest in warm up and starts from 12th position today, which is his lowest grid position since he was 12th for the Australian Grand Prix in 2008, in which he went on to finish second in the race.

The second Repsol Honda was that of Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) who recorded the third fastest time. TheItalian’s sixth place on the grid was his best qualifying result since he was third fastest at Sepang last year. Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) was two places behind his team mate after the warm up in fourth place and will start the MotoGP race from the fourth row in 11th.

Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing) was 14th fastest in the warm up, but will head the second row of the grid for the MotoGP race.

Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) took victory in the wet MotoGP race at the Gran Premio bwin de Espa?a after Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) crashed whilst leading. It was a Spanish one-two with Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) claiming second position and Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) in third.

The current MotoGP World Champion started from the front row and was able to pick up 25 points and claim his first victory of the 2011 season at the Gran Premio bwin de Espa?a. This result was his second successive win at the Andalusian circuit and a replica one-two with Pedrosa. The Mallorcan finished a clear 13.256s over his fellow compatriot after a chaotic race which was unpredictable until the very last lap.

The Italian suffered a nasty highside at turn one, losing a potential debut win. Pedrosa had made a tentative start to his race but managed to get back in the hunt for the win. Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing) had passed the Spaniard for second in the dying laps, but made a mistake and ended up in the gravel, losing 20 points.

It was the same story for Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) who due to Spies’ error, was on course to take a rostrum place behind Pedrosa. However the American also ended up visiting the gravel trap and was unable to restart. It was Hayden who finished in third to take the first podium for Ducati Team this season and his second of his career with the team.

Qatar race winner Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda) was victim to a mistake from Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) which ended his race prematurely. The Ducati rider who started from 12th, was up to fourth within the early laps and then joined the leading group. After passing Lorenzo, Stoner was his next target and as he made his manoeuvre on the Australian, he made it through on the inside and then lost control of his bike. His error caused a collision with Stoner, sending them both off. The Repsol Honda rider was unable to restart his bike, whilst the Italian was able to continue, albeit further down the field. Due to incidents further ahead, Rossi picked up 11 points for fifth place.

Hiroshi Aoyama (San Carlo Honda Gresini) was one place away from the rostrum, taking fourth position, his best result in MotoGP. The Japanese rider’s previous best finish had been seventh.

Spanish Moto2 World Champion Toni Elías (LCR Honda) brought his bike home in ninth place with the final place in the top ten going to Rizla Suzuki’s John Hopkins, replacing the injured álvaro Bautista, after a long gap away from the series. Loris Capirossi (Pramac Racing) was 13th.

Lorenzo wins whilst Spies crashes out

Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo used his M1 to deliver victory in front of his home crowd at Jerez. Team mate Ben Spies was denied his first MotoGP podium as a factory rider with just three laps remaining of the race.

The second race of the 2011 MotoGP Championship was played out on treacherous track conditions that claimed a number of victims over the 27 laps. Slipping comfortably into second in the first lap Lorenzo stayed in contention in the top three for several laps, graduating to first position as rivals Stoner, Rossi and Simoncelli all crashed out of contention. A steady rhythm saw the reigning World Champion take the chequered flag, his first ever professional race career win in the wet.

Spies initially dropped to sixth after starting fourth. However in the latter stages of the race, he gained half a second a lap on second place man Pedrosa. He caught and passed him, raising the possibility of a Yamaha one two on the podium. The Texan’s race was brought to a premature end on turn five, as slippery conditions and worn race tyres caused him to lose the front and slide off the track.

“I didn’t think of it as a race today, it was more a race of attrition. Once we moved into fourth behind Hayden, I knew I could get past so just waited for the right moment. Pedrosa was only a few seconds ahead of me and I thought for sure we could get on the podium. Lorenzo was obviously going to win but I knew we could go one two. I put it all out there and caught Pedrosa. As soon as I passed him I knew that we had second place under control, he wouldn’t be able to get back by, but I needed to not make any mistakes. Every corner after I passed him I slowed down, taking it easy then all of a sudden I was on the floor. Obviously it was my mistake, but looking at the data, I was going slower than I had all race. It was one of those things; I think the tyres were the limiting factor today. I think it was a great show for the crowd though!”

Mixed fortunes for San Carlo Honda

San Carlo Honda Gresini riders suffered mixed fortunes in the Gran Premio bwin de Espa?a. Marco Simoncelli, came close to recording his first ever MotoGP victory before crashing out, whilst team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama finished fourth, one place off making the rostrum.

Simoncelli started from the second row, but battled his way to the front of the field in wet conditions to open up a clear lead. The Italian tried to restart his bike, but his race was over. Aoyama managed to stay on board in the difficult conditions to bring his bike home, just 0.4s away from the podium. The Japanese rider scored his best finish in MotoGP with his fourth place.

“I am really disappointed! I knew after the first five laps that the tyres were struggling but I managed to hold my advantage over Lorenzo. Unfortunately I lost the front in turn one and the rear came round on me. I tried to get it back under control but I couldn't manage it. It happens in racing and even though I am disappointed, I am also happy to have shown again that I am a contender this year. The most frustrating thing about today though was that I got no help at all from the marshals, unlike other riders today. The bike was okay and if I could have had some help, I am sure I could have still had a good race. That is not good but as I said before, I showed I can run with the best today and that's the main thing we'll take away with us. A major result is around the corner.”

”The situation was really tricky today but we have taken a solid result from a tough race. A lot of riders went down but I was able to manage the situation at the most critical points. I am pleased but not totally satisfied, because with a bit more conviction early in the race, I could have passed some slower riders and I'm sure that would have put me on the podium. We have to wait until next time, but this is a great confidence boost for me and the team who have done a great job to give me a competitive bike in the wet conditions.”

Stoner and Rossi’s thoughts after clashing in Jerez

Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda) and nine time World Champion Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team), were involved in an incident in the MotoGP race at Jerez, which took the Australian out of proceedings.

Stoner had been in second place when the Italian mounted a challenge behind him and attempted a manoeuvre going into turn one. The Ducati rider made the move past Stoner, but lost control of his bike, causing a collision which brought them both down. Rossi was able to remount his bike and continue, picking up 11 points in fifth place. Here are the thoughts of both riders after the coming together during the race in which Rossi took full responsibility for.

”We made a good start to the race, we understood the tyres weren’t the best and they were trying to spin, so we needed to back off quite a bit,” said the Repsol Honda rider. ”Rossi came up the inside and wasn’t able to stay on the bike and took me out. It was not the best day for us for sure, after such a good weekend. We’re very disappointed with this result. I believe we would have been there at the end because it was a long race with many people crashing which is why we were being quiet.”

Stoner was clearly frustrated after the incident which ended his race prematurely. After the race, Rossi went to the Honda garage to apologise to Stoner for his mistake. The Repsol Honda rider shared his feelings after the two exchanged words.

Yes it’s a nice gesture, it’s very good, but it still doesn’t change the result today, so we’ll see what happens in the next races.”

Rossi made amends for his mistake, but insisted he was in a position to fight for the podium.

”Yes it was a crazy race because it was difficult conditions and everyone was on the limit with the softer tyres,” explained Rossi. “I was very fast in the beginning of the race in the wet, but unfortunately I made a mistake in braking and I crashed. Unfortunately, I also crashed into Stoner. I went to him to say sorry that I made a mistake. With my race today, we had the potential to try and win or finish on the podium, but at the end the result isn’t so bad. I came back to finish fifth which was important points for the championship.”

Stoner blasts marshals after Rossi

Casey Stoner was prepared to accept that Valentino Rossi made a racing mistake at Jerez on Sunday - when the Italian crashed while trying to overtake the Australian, bringing them both down - but felt the reaction of the marshals was out of order.

Hayden keeps focus for Ducati

Luck and judgement helped Nicky Hayden take Ducati's first podium of the season in Sunday's dramatic Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.

Hayden was lucky in the sense that, during the closing stages of the wet race, two riders dropped out of a podium position ahead of him - Ben Spies due to a crash, Colin Edwards after technical problems.

Dani Pedrosa wasn't even sure if it was worth racing in his home Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.
