Lotus appoint deputy team principals
(L to R): Dato' Kamarudin Meranum (MAL) Shareholder Lotus Racing, SM Nasarudin (MAL) Shareholder Lotus Racing and Tony Fernandes (MAL) Lotus Team Principal. Lotus T127 Launch, Royal Horticultural Halls, London, 12 February 2010. The new Lotus T127 with Heikki Kovalainen (FIN) and Jarno Trulli (ITA) Lotus. Lotus T127 Launch, Royal Horticultural Halls, London, 12 February 2010. The new Lotus T127 (L to R): Mike Gascoyne (GBR) Lotus Racing Chief Technical Officer and Tony Fernandes (MAL) Lotus Team Principal. Lotus T127 Launch, Royal Horticultural Halls, London, 12 February 2010.
Following the unveiling of their new car on Friday night, Lotus Racing have announced they have strengthened their senior management team, with two shareholders, S M Nasarudin and Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun, joining team principal Tony Fernandes as his deputies.
“Our goals and objectives are clear but, as mentioned earlier, there is still a huge task at hand,” explained Fernandes. “We have 19 races to go through and, with the three of us assisting each other in our roles, we believe that the management has all the necessary resources to bring the team to the forefront.”
Commenting on his appointment, Nasarudin, said: “We made this dream possible, turning it from a simple Malaysian dream to reality. This was all made possible through passion, hard work and team spirit. As with all the challenges that we have had to face to get to where we are now, we embraced these challenges as a team and now are even more determined to finish what we have started.
“We are realistic of our goals and by no means will it be easy from this point onwards, but the belief is there. We will consistently bring with us a professional and confident set up to each of the races for this season. As team owners, and in our deputy principal’s roles, it further reflects our continued belief and commitment to this team.”
Meranun added: “One may have the money, but not necessarily the opportunity to invest in an exciting and challenging venture, especially with a team of dedicated and highly committed people - to sum it up, this is unity in diversity at its best, under a legendary name, Lotus Racing. We still have a long road ahead and who knows what the future holds, but we are underway and we just have do the best we can.
“We have delivered a great product in such a short time period, in one of the most competitive motorsports platform in the world, and I strongly believe we have the drive, determination and most importantly the passion to see it through - God willing."
Following last week’s successful shakedown of the T127, Lotus will test alongside their rivals for the first time this week at the four-day Jerez test, which will begin on Wednesday. |

TUN DR. MAHATHIR OFFICIALLY OPENS LOTUS RACING FACTORY
22 February 2010
Tun Dr. Mahathir, ex-Prime Minister of Malaysia, today conducted the official opening of the Lotus Racing factory in Hingham, Norfolk. Malaysia’s longest serving Prime Minister, and one of Asia’s most influential political figures, was joined by Lotus Racing Team Principal Tony Fernandes, Deputy Team Principals Kamarudin Meranun and SM Nasarudin and Chief Technical Officer Mike Gascoyne for the official ceremony to declare the factory open.
During his tour Tun Dr. Mahathir was given a detailed explanation of the different aspects of a modern Formula One team factory. He was then seated in the Lotus Cosworth T127 Chassis 02 while the engine was fired up, giving the team’s esteemed guest a very rare insight into the conditions the team’s drivers, Malaysia’s Fairuz Fauzy, Italy’s Jarno Trulli and Finland’s Heikki Kovalainen work in at races and tests.
Tun Dr. Mahathir created the vision for the establishment and growth of motorsport in Malaysia, and therefore the birth of the Lotus Racing team. This visionary spirit was the driving force for the establishment of the Malaysian Grand Prix, held at the world-renowned Sepang International Circuit which was also created and built under his Premiership.
Tony Fernandes and fellow Lotus Racing shareholders Kamarudin Meranun and SM Nasarudin were honoured that Tun Dr. Mahathir oversaw such an important milestone in the team’s development, saying “It is very exciting for us and the team that Tun Dr. Mahathir has been able to come to Norfolk to officially open our factory. He is the Father of motor racing in Malaysia, the visionary behind the birth of the Sepang International Circuit and the Malaysian Grand Prix and has given us all the inspiration to reach for the skies and achieve our dreams – as such it is a tremendous honour for us to welcome him here and we are extremely proud he has opened our factory today. ”
Lotus Racing completed its first official test last week in Jerez and now moves to Barcelona for the final official test before the season kicks off in earnest in Bahrain from March 12th – 14th.

HRH THE DUKE OF YORK VISITS LOTUS RACING FACTORY
23 February 2010
Just one day after Lotus Racing's Hingham factory was officially opened by former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir, the team played host to HRH The Duke of York. Team Principal Tony Fernandes and Chief Technical Officer Mike Gascoyne gave the Duke an official tour of the team's facility and presented him with a commemorative set of his own Lotus Racing overalls. Also present was Clive Chapman, son of the late Colin Chapman, the original founder of Lotus.
The Duke's visit was a landmark occasion for Lotus Racing. It gave the team a chance to thank him personally for the pivotal role he played in the formation of the latest British team to join the Formula 1 grid, and provided His Royal Highness with an opportunity to see progress at the factory since the team's formation in September 2009.
During his tour The Duke was introduced to a number of the team's staff, including drivers Heikki Kovalainen, Jarno Trulli and Fairuz Fauzy, together with members of the technical and mechanical departments who were honoured that their workplace was visited by such an esteemed guest.
Speaking about a momentous week for Lotus Racing, Tony Fernandes said "I have been privileged to work with His Royal Highness over a number of years in his role as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. As is well known without HRH's efforts Air Asia X's partnership with Rolls Royce would not have become a reality. What is perhaps less well recognised is that the Duke was one of the primary catalysts behind our substantial capital investment here in Norfolk. Indeed it was thanks to the Duke's advice in June of 2009 that we began another extraordinary partnership between Malaysia and the United Kingdom that has culminated in the successful entry and creation of the Lotus Racing T127 grand prix car. I am delighted that His Royal Highness was able to join us at Lotus Racing today." |

以新车队来说今年主要是稳扎稳打,尽量避免落后,如果得到分数可当意外奖赏,但谈何容易啊。
个人希望如果战车真的没竞争力也要跑在维珍车队前面。 |
