     Leicester University Part 3        

Fielding Johnson Buildling



The University's Grade II-listed, principal administrative building was constructed in 1837 as the Leicestershire and Rutland Lunatic Asylum. The building was closed in 1907 but reopened at the outbreak of war as the 5th Northern General Military Hospital in which capacity it served till 1919. Thomas Fielding Johnson (1828-1921) was a Leicester businessman and philanthropist who purchased the building and grounds in 1919 for £40,000 and presented them to Leicester Council for the establishment of a University College (now the University of Leicester) and a grammar school (now Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College). An extension was added to the rear of the building in 1950 (later demolished to make room for the Library) and it was formally renamed the Fielding Johnson Building in 1964.
The 1907 report which closed the asylum noted that "lunacy in Leicester is considerably below the average

Engineering Tower [我的办公室/Lab就在这里里面]



Constructed in 1963, the Department of Engineering is probably the most distinctive and famous building on campus and is Grade II* listed. It was designed by James Stirling (after whom the Stirling Prize for Architecture is named) and James Gowan as part of the 'New Brutalist' school of architecture. Since then scores of articles and at least one book have been written about the Engineering Building and in 2008 the Daily Telegraph included it in a list of 'the 50 most inspiring buildings in Britain', calling Stirling and Gowan's unique design "a declaration of war against the predominant culture of dour functionalism."
In 1971, the Engineering Building was depicted on a 7½p stamp.

Henry Wellcome Building



One of the most modern buildings on campus, the Henry Wellcome Building was designed by Fairhursts Design Group and opened in 2006. The £22.5 million cost was shared between the University and the Wellcome Trust, the largest non-Governmental funding body for biomedical research. As well as the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Psychology, it is home to the Frank and Katherine May Lecture Theatre, named after Frank May MBE, a local businessman and long-term supporter of the University. John Sydney Carter's sculptures 'Atomica' and 'Vortex' can be seen inside the building and outside the main entrance.
Of all the people who have given their names to University of Leicester buildings, Henry Wellcome (1853-1936) is the only one who has no personal connection with the University

你有达到入学要求吗？？
如果有的话，大多数都能进入的。。。

因为达不到噜，他们要求degree2.1，可是我只有2.2
以前不努力的结果

哈哈~~因为你叫我去你的空间看看阿（钞票塑料袋）~~我就转转转到这边来咯 再说chua兄的经历真的让我很感动。。。能熬过这种阶段的人我都很佩服的~~有时我看到那些为爱殉情的新闻(只是纯粹分手吧了)。。。真的很难过~~~但不是为他们难过。。。而是为了他们还在世的亲人难过。。。
chua兄，从你的描述中让我知道你的内人是一位很好+贤慧+体贴+对生命的热诚+很多很多的优点~~~~~~~~~在此献上 给在天堂的她~~
至于chua兄，你的坚强更加让我敬佩。。。坚强的不止是你还继续的走下去。。。而是还包括了你的态度，积极，上进~~我也献上最真诚的祝福 给你

很久没有来海外了。。。    

最近为了博士第一学年的报告和Presentation忙的团团转。。。
还有搬家的事情，再加上一段时间不知道为何无法登录，想暂时弃楼一下，直到下个星期五VIVA后才有些时间再次发布回复，希望海外的朋友见谅。待VIVA过后会继续分享Leicester 和De Monfort大学的点点滴滴。。。     

谢谢Lose兄的关心和鼓励。。。
我没有如Lose兄说地那么坚强／让人钦佩，因为途中我跌倒无数次，真的很想一走了之，还得打电话哭诉，简直象个长不大的孩子。以前很多时候我遇到问题时都会向内人反映，两人一起协商如何面对。如今的我就好象失去了人生的军师。。。
    
7月28日是内人的生日。还没有想到要送些什么给她。
