King crab...



Various species of king crab (Paralomis zealandica) are foundin cool waters around the world. This extra-spiky species is only foundoff New Zealand’s east coast, from the southern North Island to theCampbell Plateau, where it lives on sandy bottoms at around 600 metresdeep.

King crabs are generally believed to be derived from hermit crab ancestors, which may explain the asymmetry still found in the adult forms. Although some doubt still exists about this theory, king crabs are the most widely quoted example of carcinisation (shellification/crustification) among the Decapoda (familiar crustaceans). The evidence for this explanation comes from the asymmetry of the king crab's abdomen, which is thought to reflect the asymmetry of hermit crabs, which must fit into a spiral shell.

The name melanostomus comes from the Greek melanos meaning black and stoma meaning mouth.
There are two genera in the family Chaunacidae; Chaunacops and Chaunax. Chaunacops differs from Chaunaxby having a lower lateral line count, longer ilicium, a wider head,more widely spaced body spines and several skeletal characters.
Size rangeThe species grows to at least 10 cm in length.DistributionC. melanostomus has been trawled in the Central to Eastern Indian Ocean at depths ranging from 1320 m to 1760 m.

The Coffinfish (Chaunax endeavouri) pictured above has been floatingaround the internet as having been washed up on the beach by a tsunami(tidal wave). This is just a hoax going around as are most of thepictures in the email, but it is true that a bunch of fish were killedby the tsunami but most were nearshore reef fish.

The coffinfish is a bottom dwelling fish that lives in deepwaters in Southwest Pacific around Austrailia and Tasmania. Coffinfishcan inflate theirselves like puffer fish but also have a small lure onthier head like anglerfish.
The Coffin fish is a bottom-dwelling fish that can be found almostanywhere in the world. These curious looking fish walk along the bottomof the sea floor using their leg-like fins to crawl around.Since they’re highly hunted by other predators, the Coffin fish have away of defending themselves. Since they resemble the puffer fish, theycan actually swallow a lot of water thus making them “blow up” to abigger size. That way, predators have a hard time biting into them.

这个是上面那只异父异母的兄弟。。。。。也是coffin fish...
不过这个的样子可爱一点。。有点像河豚。。。遇到危险时会吸取大量的海水把自己涨大，让敌人难以吞噬。。
平时在海底是用它的fin来走路的。。

有些可以吃，有些应该不可以吃。。。。
可是在外国的确有卖。。。因为它的身形大，肉很多。。。。。
