BToto has weaker fourth quarter

BETTING firm Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd (BToto) (1562) said fourth quarter net profit fell 24 per cent to RM80.9 million due to a higher prize payout and higher finance costs in that period.

Revenue dropped to RM858.3 million from RM870.3 million before.

In the full year ended April 30 2010, BToto turned in a net profit of RM381.7 million, down 7.7 per cent. Revenue declined 8.2 per cent to about RM3.4 billion.

"This was primarily due to high base effect of the previous year, which experienced strong sales from high jackpots in the Mega 6/52 game," it said in a filing to the stock exchange yesterday
The group is optimistic that its operating performance for the current year will be "good" barring unforeseen circumstances and taking into account the launch of a new game, Supreme Toto 6/58, in March this year.

The Board of Directors of Berjaya Sports Toto Berhad (“B-Toto”) is pleased to announce that STMSB proposes to undertake a MTN Programme of up to RM800.0 million in nominal value (“the MTN Programme”) and has received the approval of the Securities Commission. STMSB has appointed Maybank Investment Bank Berhad as the Principal Adviser, Lead Arranger and Joint Lead Managers together with AmInvestment Bank Berhad.

The MTN Programme is akin to a revolving credit facility where-in the tenure for the MTNs shall be above one (1) year and up to ten (10) years as STMSB may select in consultation with the Joint Lead Managers.

The anticipated initial drawdown of the MTNs is expected to be sized approximately RM500.0 million, the proceeds of which will be principally utilized towards the refinancing of the B-Toto Group’s existing bank borrowings and for working capital.

The MTN Programme is an efficient and cost effective avenue to manage the B-Toto Group’s funding requirements.

Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad, had in its press announcement dated 14 June 2010, assigned a AA – rating with stable outlook on the MTN Programme.

Najib said Ascot Sports Sdn Bhd had been informed of the decision.
“They accepted it,” he said at a press conference at about 11.30pm after chairing the meeting.
As the approval given to Ascot earlier was “in principle” only, Najib said the issue of compensating the company did not arise as the Finance Ministry had the absolute right to withdraw the approval given.
Najib added the Government was not too concerned about the economic impact resulting from decision to say no to sports betting .
