Demy de Zeeuw is hopeful Luis Suarez will stay at Ajax until the end of the season

Ajax midfielder Demy de Zeeuw is hopeful that star player Luis Suarez will stay with the Godenzonen until the end of the season. The Uruguay international appears to be on his way to Liverpool, but De Zeeuw hasn't given up hope yet that Suarez will stay put.

"We can only hope that Luis will stay with Ajax until the end of the season. I'm fine with it if he leaves next summer after having helped us to some silverware," said De Zeeuw to Goal.com NL.

"It's a bit of a difficult situation to discuss because it's about someone else. However, I think Luis will stay put until the summer transfer window. The people who really know Luis all know that he only wants to leave Ajax for a really big club.

"He's had plenty of chances to leave the club before. If he decides to leave Ajax this winter, it will be a bit like leaving through the back door after his lengthy suspension. I don't think that's the way he wants to go.

"Liverpool are a big club, but I don't know whether Luis wants to go there. There are a lot of rumours going around, but I haven't heard about him Liverpool yet. I haven't asked him about it either. It's his choice and I don't want to influence him."

Liverpool FC pursuing Luis Suarez deal while Ryan Babel move still in the balance


LIVERPOOL’S efforts to land Ajax striker Luis Suarez were pressing ahead today as uncertainty over the position of Ryan Babel continues.

The Reds are keen to acquire the services of the Urug-uayan during this month’s transfer window to give much-needed support to Fernando Torres.

Owner John Henry dined with the player’s agent earlier this week at a London restaurant to try and thrash out a deal.

Suarez, who scored three goals in last summer’s World Cup which helped propel the South Americans to the semi-final, is keen to come to Anfield to link up with the Spanish stars in the Liverpool dressing room.

Ajax have slapped a eye-opening ￡27m valu-ation on their forward, but a fee of ￡15m could persuade them to do business.

Winger Ryan Babel could yet be a significant factor in any Suarez transaction after he told a Dutch newspaper of his desire to return to the Eredivisie.

The 24-year-old is known to favour a move, potentially even a loan arrangement, back to Ajax, the club he left for Liverpool in 2007 for a fee in excess of ￡10m.

Babel looked set to be on his way to German side Hoffenheim earlier this week after Liverpool agreed a ￡5.8m fee with the Bundesliga club.

But with personal terms still to be agreed, and the winger’s overriding wish to go back to Holland, that transaction could yet stall.

Publicly, Liverpool are giving little away about their pursuit of Suarez, and Ajax manager Frank de Boer has said only an ‘absurd’ offer would see the striker head to Merseyside.

A game of brinkmanship is now underway and Babel will hope he becomes a make weight in a deal between his employers and the Dutch side.

The Reds’ scouting team have watched Suarez repeatedly and they think he could be the perfect foil for a frustrated Torres.

Liverpool have been quiet so far in this month’s transfer window, but Fenway Sports Group are understood to be keen to give new manager Dalglish some financial backing before the deadline.

Tottenham are also thought to be keen on Suarez, but Liverpool appears to be his most likely destination after John Henry reportedly met with the player’s agent over dinner – Pere Guardiola – earlier this week.

Reds chiefs confident of signing Uruguayan striker after progress in talks

Liverpool are confident of landing Ajax star Luis Suarez after signs of progress emerged during tough negotiations between the two clubs.

Reds officials have been locked in talks with the Dutch club and hope to sign the Uruguayan striker for ￡15-18 million, despite Ajax manager Frank De Boer's insistence that it would take an "absurd" amount to sign him.

Ajax are believed to be demanding ￡26m for the 23-year-old but a compromise is expected to be reached – even as early as Thursday – after the player made it clear he wanted to move to Merseyside and form a partnership with Fernando Torres.

Liverpool are ready to include ￡6m-rated Ryan Babel, who originally signed from Ajax in 2007, in the deal but the cash-strapped Dutch giants are understood to favour a straight cash deal to maximise their financial return.

While Liverpool close in on their main January transfer target, Suarez's Ajax team-mates are still hopeful that their talisman will stay in the Netherlands for the rest of the season and leave in the summer.

Speaking to Goal.com Holland's Wout Stravers, Ajax midfielder Demy de Zeeuw said: “I think he stays at Ajax. When you know Luis, you know he only wants to go to a real big club. He could have left Ajax so many times already in the past.

“Do I rate Liverpool as a big club? Of course Liverpool is a big club. But I don't know if Luis wants to go there. We hear a lot of reports, but he didn't say he wants to join Liverpool yet. I didn't ask him.

“It's not my business. It's his choice. We only can hope that he is staying and say goodbye at the end of the season with a price and a proud feeling.”

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish wants to bolster his squad this month after the club's poor start to the season. Along with Damien Comolli, director of football strategy, Suarez has been identified as the man to add goals, creativity and energy to the Reds' forward line.

Suarez scored 110 goals in 154 games for the Dutch giants and netted a stunning 49 times last season but is now keen to link up with the Spanish-speaking contingent at Anfield. Tottenham were also very interested but are now considering alternative options.

His relationship with the Ajax hierarchy has deteriorated this season and it is understood that he was unhappy that the club failed to appeal against his seven-match ban incurred by the Dutch Football Federation in late November for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal.

Suarez’s domestic ban keeps him on the sidelines until February 4 and it is likely that he has played his final game for the club, which team-mate De Zeeuw believes would be sad for the player and the team.

“I don't think Suarez wants to leave via the back door after such a suspension,” added De Zeeuw. “You don't want to say goodbye in this way.”

Should Suarez complete a move to Merseyside, he may soon be joined by Aston Villa left-back Stephen Warnock, with the former Red in line for a loan move until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

2011年冬季转会期已经过了2/3，全世界都认为最需要买人的豪门利物浦却仍旧没有引援行动，反而是先送走了边缘人巴贝尔。考虑到红军上半赛季的低迷和球队需要，两大老板约翰-亨利和汤姆-沃纳也深知需要买人，但问题是现在已经变成了卖方市场，红军盯上的几个目标都被现东家标上了天价。

近来与利物浦走的最近的当属荷甲锋霸苏亚雷斯。此人因为去年11月的咬人事件与阿贾克斯渐行渐远，新主帅弗兰克-德波尔甚至剥夺了他的队长袖标。昨天英媒曝出红军老板约翰-亨利已经密会苏亚雷斯经纪人的消息，但阿贾克斯方面却仍旧咬定天价不松口。据《镜报》披露阿贾克斯要价2800万英镑，这在利物浦看来实在太过昂贵。毕竟当年从马竞挖来托雷斯也没花这么多钱。

如此算来，利物浦中前场三大引援目标的总身价至少超过6000万英镑，这将十分考验美国新老板的实力和诚心。不过红军主席汤姆-沃纳在接受球队官网采访时，却明确表示了不愿做冤大头。“我们的确有引援目标，也希望短期内提高球队。我们期待着能宣布新援的到来，但长远规划也还是很重要的。我们要加强球队不只是这个赛季或是下个赛季的事，因此我也希望球迷们能够理解。”
