Enhancing creativity through Marketing Communication
The purpose of this assignment is to give students in the Principles of Marketing course an opportunity discover for themselves the influence of strategic retailing factors (e.g., location, atmospherics, etc.) on consumer perceptions. The project involves individual, detailed observation at two very different types of retail outlets and a four to five page summary of the findings. An in-class activity enables groups of students to compare and contrast their findings and reinforces the understanding of strategic retailing factors.
Each student selects an item categorized as a "shopping product" for which to shop. Students describe the product attributes desired as specifically as possible. If it is a branded product, the brand sought is named. The intent of this aspect of the assignment is to ensure students start out with a clear conception of the specific product for which they are shopping. Students then select and compare two retailers who offer this product. (Reminder: DO NOT PICK GIANT HYPERMARKET IN KELANA JAYA.)
Two issues are critical in the selection of specific stores. First, retailing factors will be most salient if two very different stores are compared. Therefore, each student:
i. Chooses two types of retailers (specialty store, department store, discount store, or "category killer") and visits one store of each type.
ii. Second, it is imperative that students choose stores where they have never shopped. Retailing factors will be most apparent, and observed most objectively, in unfamiliar stores.
iii. Each student visits the two stores s/he selects and records observations of specific strategic retailing factors at each store. The following guidelines encourage attention to detail and provide an outline for the discussion:
Stage I
A. Location Factors
a. What is the type of location (traditional business district, community shopping center, etc.)?
b. How congested is this part of town in general?
c. What influence does the neighborhood have on your impression of the store?
d. Would you travel to this store under normal circumstances to shop for your product?
B. Exterior Atmospherics
a. How convenient is it to get into the parking lot from the street? For example, do you have to drive by and make a U-turn or can you turn in at a stoplight?
b. How adequate is the parking? What other parking issues do you notice? For example, is there a parking lot? Are the slots wide or too narrow? Is it a short or long walk to the entrance? Are there are other cars in the lot (if not, how does that make you feel)? How adequate is visibility? Describe the pedestrian traffic in the parking lot and to the store.
c. Do you think nearby stores increase the number of customers to "your" store, or is it more likely to be the other way around? Are there direct competitors nearby?
d. Does the building have a modern appearance? Does it have an attractive appearance? Is the entrance inviting to potential shoppers? Explain.

With regards to the group project, let me walk you through one by one:
1. First and foremost for you to find 2 similar business that competing with each
other. Please compare apple with apple. For instance choose between tesco and giant
(hypermarket), or watson and guardian (specialty store), or between parksond and jaya
jusco (departmental store).
2. Than identify the product that you want to study further, as this part has to be
completed on the second stage when you discuss about the product range, the
competitors brand as well as the comparing price. For example you pick SONY TV and
compare the product offering between tesco and giant. As SONY TV has various product
line (different sizes and price) Or you want to pick vitamin C and compare this
product availability in watson and guardian. -- These part you have to discuss into
detail in stage 2 under product and price.
3. The most important that you have to complete first is what consist in stage 1 -
location and exterior atmosphere. For example your group has decided to choose watson
and to compare it with guardian. BUT please do not get both coming from the same
location or in the same shopping mall. Make sure both are located in a different area.
So that you could do the comparison based on location and the exterior factors.
4. In the project instruction I have furnish you with the detail of what needs to be
compared. So go through each questions and based on your own visit to the store note
what you experience and do the comparison. Put your answer in an essay format and
stress on the significant differences that you could noticed.

7-11 其实可以和杂货店比 。。。其实并不是不能选择日常用品呀 。。shampoo 很好的学习哟
其实题目不是compare products ,是compare business lo ...

应该是可以的
哈哈哈。。本来的,这里的supermarket就是那样
如果是KL的话,应该会比较多好选择及比较
那就尝试做日常用品,应该没问题的
我想应该会比较多资料
也许你之前看的那个男不是lecturer
不过听说他好像这个sem有教一个科目(education的)
他之前是做他的位子的
不过那个作弄我的lecturer来之后,位子就是他的了
哎呀。。不管他们啦,每次他们的位子都会更动的
如果有早课,我就会很早醒来的
如果没有早课或没有课,我才懒得早醒来
每天都觉得时间不够用,也没有什么时间来睡好觉 |

这个assignment是group吗?
其实是2个retailers(different, because want to compare the location),然后选一个products(because want explain the prices and the products itself)

它的意思是说,这个projects是要具备个人看法,详细的看法来分析这些的
Answer stage 1的时候,可以合在一起回答问题(通常都是这样的)
four to five page summary of the findings >>> 意思是说你必须要用4到5面来summary你所做的每一个事情,因为summary findings是很重要的一part的
啊,你的lecturer是怎样告诉你的?

问题是这里没有Hypermarket
即使有hypermarket都在建造中
如果要做别个地方比如KL的话,自己很难想到很多
而我是比较喜欢用这里来构想东西(也顺便创造故事 )
如果选择Watson和Guardian来做retailers,这也不错啊 |

Group Project - 这个题目属于 discussion 为主。
主要是成员要能够互相提问,交流 。。。研究问题。就酱而已。
marking 应该是由本地给的吧? |
