BINTULU: A maiden store, New World Mart, a venture developed by Destiny Properties Sdn Bhd which is a member of Destiny Group, is ready to welcome shoppers beginning this Wednesday.

The name ‘New World’ was inspired by a reputable supermarket chain in New Zealand. Its chief operating officer (COO) Lawrence Chin said yesterday during a media tour of the mall that New World Sdn Bhd was in fact affiliated to New World Supermarket in New Zealand despite no investment sharing basis.
This is simply because they have a lot in common such as supermarket concept, grocery management system and retail standards.
“We have imported state-of-the-art designs and display practices from reputable supermarkets from all over the world into our maiden store here,” Chin said.
“We promise to create the best shopping atmosphere, providing the freshest choices, widest product selection and comfortable shopping experience.”
The project started in October 2006 when its location, the Parkcity Mall, was merely a piece of construction ground.
Apart from the hefty renovations, a team of management staff members were also sent to New World Supermarkets around New Zealand for job attachments.
In New World Mart, one can find the best sheltered greengrocer where a huge variety of fresh fruits and vegetables lay on angled racks, ready for picking.
There’s also a large chiller for displaying various meats and poultry. It boasts of the widest selection of raw meat and cuts under one roof.
New World Mart is also the only supermarket in town with a fully equipped seafood section where the catch of the day is displayed on a bed of shaved ice.
All these raw foods are sourced and replenished daily.
For those who want a combination of fresh taste and long shelf life be sure to dig in the large selection of frozen foods at New World Mart.
Featuring the longest arrangement of chillers in town, New World Mart offers a complete range of dairy products - milk, yoghurts, juices, butters, and cheeses - and there is also a wide range of imported goods mostly from New Zealand, United States and Japan.
Something exciting to look for in the near future would be their wine selection from vineyards all over the world.
Eight belted checkouts are deployed at the front counters (pay counters) to minimise congestion during peak hours.
In addition there are four express checkouts for customers with less than 12 items each. All these checkouts will feature card terminals where major credit cards and Maybank debit cards are acceptable with no extra fee (for purchase above RM30).
Their reason for not adding any charges for the cards is to promote a cashless society and make it more convenient for customers to shop.
The ‘New Departmental Store’ on the first floor is due to open in early July. Specialising in ‘softline’, it will offer a wide range of apparel and other merchandise for a fashionable lifestyle.
With spacious walkway and brightly lit interior, it is a class of its own and allows shoppers to pick their clothes in a stress-free environment.
From reputable cosmetic products and leather products to business wear it has something for everyone.
New World Mart Sdn Bhd’s chairman who is also the Destiny Properties Sdn Bhd’s chairman, Pui Kiean Onn, said the drive-in parking space on the third and fourth levels would be able to accommodate about 400 cars at a time.
The cost of Parkcity Shopping Mall and the 138-units of apartment-style hotel was about RM70 million.
“The grand opening is at the end of this year,” said Pui.
Onn also said that this Wednesday’s function is the soft opening of the shopping mall.
He added that the grand opening would be after the hotels in the ten-storey mall had been completed.
It was learnt that there are six hotels from the fifth floor while the top floor would be for the hotels’ offices.
Also present during the media tour were New World Mart Sdn Bhd’s director, Kerry Murphy; New World Supermarket New Zealand’s manager, Edwin Seran Cke; New World Supermarket New Zealand’s owner operator, Peter Mcgregor; Destiny Properties Sdn Bhd’s managing director, Patrick Lau; New World Sdn Bhd supermarket manager, Francis Wee; and Parkcity Shopping Mall management Sdn Bhd’s general manager, David Kueh.
