马尔代夫一名童军代马尔代夫总统挡了刺客一刀
该童军叫Mohamed Jaisham,15岁。
MOHAMED Jaisham, 15, says it is thanks to his boy Scout training to "be prepared" that he saved his president - Maumoon Abdul Gayoom - from assassination.
The teen, in his Scout's uniform, was lining up with a crowd of others to see Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom earlier this week when he heard a man, said to have extreme religious views, yell out.
"I saw the knife, because he was yelling Allahu Akbar (God is Greatest)," the teenager said. "I wanted to catch the knife, but he moved very quickly. I stopped it with my left hand and was cut."
The president, 71, was unscathed. Jaisham suffered a deep, 2.5cm cut in his hand, and is now being revered as a national hero.
"The Scout motto is 'be prepared', and at that time I was prepared. It helped me so much. It's my training.
"I wear a Scout's uniform and I wanted to save my president," Jaisham said.
Mr Gayoom, who is Asia's longest-serving ruler, having led the Maldives, an island chain 800km south of India, for three decades, said he was saved "thanks to Mohamed Jaisham and Allah".
"He said 'Thank you so much', and said he was proud of me, and I was a good Scout," said Jaisham.
"I want to become a professional policeman, because I want to save again and again for my country."
