Karun Chandhok: "The wet weather meant we limited the morningrunplan but despite that it was good to get back out on track. Ididn't get a chance to push but I'm enjoying working with the teamand the more time I spend with everyone the more I can see how farthis team can go. There's a great spirit across the whole garage, and back in the factory, and with the constant progression towardsthe midfield this is a great place to be working in."
Heikki Kovalainen (car 20): "That was a reasonable session forme - I had a DRS issue that definitely cost me some time but Ithink the balance was pretty good and we got through some decentsetup work so I think we'll be ok tomorrow."
Jarno Trulli (car 21): "I'm pleased in general with today. It'sbeen a positive, trouble free day and we managed to run through anumber of options that give us a good direction for tomorrow andthe race. We have made an adjustment to the power steering andthat's definitely improved things in the cockpit for me but there'smore to come from that and the whole car so I think we can go intotomorrow in good shape."
Thierry Salvi, Renault Sport F1 Support Leader: "We didn'tmanage to do much running in P1 this morning due to the weather sowe had to work a lot harder during P2 this afternoon, especiallywith specific engine mapping. I hope we will have good feedbackfrom the drivers and can take another step forwards on strategy. Ithink there is more to come from the whole package tomorrow so thiswas a pretty good start to the weekend."
Mike Gascoyne, Chief Technical Officer: "A pretty good day.Obviously we had limited running this morning in the wet conditionsas we wanted to save tyres in case we have to use wets in the race.Unfortunately that limited the running Karun and Jarno could do butthis afternoon we completed the whole program without any realproblems with the performance levels we showed I think we arelooking at having a pretty good weekend."

Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20: "I'm happy with that. We only have tofind a little bit more to join the fight in Q2 but today we had agood strategy and got everything that we could from the tyres. I'mpleased with my own performance - the quick lap was right on themoney with no mistakes so it's a good feeling to keep edgingcloser. We're all looking forward to the Barcelona upgrade packagewhere hopefully that will deliver a greater performance gaincompared to what the opposition will bring but we're nearly thereso for now it's just about keeping up the effort and putting inanother strong performance tomorrow."
Jarno Trulli, Car 21: "I'm pretty much satisfied with my runtoday. Unfortunately I had a DRS issue which obviously costs a lotof time on a circuit like this but I think that all round we did asgood a job as we could today. Our race pace definitely gives us achance to fight with the cars ahead so hopefully we can sort outthe DRS issue and replicate what we did in the race in China."
Thierry Salvi, Renault Sport F1 Support Leader: "It was quite agood day when you look at the result, especially for the enginebecause the weather yesterday had limited our running. This morningwe worked on the driveability characteristics of the engine andhave had some very good feedback from the drivers on that, sothat's another step forward. Cooling-wise, the car was okay becauseit was colder today than the usual ambient conditions in Turkey, sothe engines ran well in the qualifying session."
Mike Gascoyne, Chief Technical Officer: "I think we can bereasonably happy with qualifying and both drivers got the most theycould out of the car. Unfortunately we went into qualifying knowingthat we had a problem with the DRS on Jarno's car and that costsquite a lot of time around Istanbul Park which explains his finalposition. However, we know that we are kinder on the tyres in therace than the cars in front of us so I think we can have a verycompetitive Sunday and take the fight to the cars in front."
Riad Asmat, Chief Executive Officer: "We keep edging evercloser. Half a second now from Q2 is another improvement and Ithink it's a measure of our ongoing development that we keeppushing the teams ahead. We're still 18 months old and the fact wehave, relatively, made the biggest performance gains of any of theteams this season is a sign of the fact we are now an establishedteam ourselves and will keep progressing to make good on that titleas the season progresses."

Jarno Trulli, Car 21 - Chassis T128-03: "It's always good to get back to Spain. I've spent so much time at the Barcelona circuit it's like a second home to me and the whole team and even though I must have completed thousands of kms around there it's still a good challenge. It's very technical and that puts demands on the car's aero - a good aero package is one of the keys to being quick.

"Looking at the circuit itself I particularly like T9 - it's one of the quicker corners in the whole calendar and one that rewards confidence and good balance. There's not a lot of overtaking chances around the lap and we'll see if the DRS plays the same role in Spain that it did in Turkey - if it does then tracks like Barcelona will suddenly have overtaking chances and that's got to be good for the fans."

Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20 - Chassis T128-04: "Barcelona is one of the tracks where we all know every single centimetre of the whole lap. We test there so much that it usually ends up with the whole grid having teammates side by side but it's the kind of circuit where you can't hide anything at all. If you are quick there you can be quick everywhere as it's demanding aerodynamically, and if you struggle there you could have problems at a variety of circuits.

"A good lap kind of flows until you reach the last three corners which are a bit fiddly. The first sector is probably the best - T1 is a quick chicane and then turns three, four, seven and nine are all fast. You need good high-speed stability there and good grip to get the best out of the car and when you hook it all up and put in a quick time it's pretty rewarding."

MARK SMITH'S FIRST DAY AS TEAM LOTUS TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

                                                        Hingham, UK - 16th May 2011
Team Lotus has announced today that Mark Smith has started work at the Anglo-Malaysian team’s Hingham, UK factory on his first day as Technical Director. Reporting to Chief Technical Officer Mike Gascoyne, Mark completes the technical department and joins Lewis Butler (Chief Designer), Marianne Hinson (Head of Aerodynamics), Dieter Gass (Deputy Technical Director) and Elliot Dason-Barber (Head of R&D and Vehicle Dynamics) to continue the development of the T128 and begin work on the 2012 car.

Mark Smith: “I am very excited about the challenge that lies ahead with Team Lotus. This is the first time I have been in the factory and I am very impressed with what I have seen across all the departments. Throughout my career I have had some interesting spells with a number of F1 teams including Jordan, Renault, Red Bull Racing and Force India and I have enjoyed the experience of winning races wherever I have been. However, I have never been involved in a Championship win with any of those teams and I see that as one of my key goals with Team Lotus. I was genuinely impressed at how this team reached the 2010 grid with a good functional car and a professional looking operation in such a short time. That was a huge achievement and they have built upon that in 2011, so the foundations are there for long-term success and I am looking forward to helping the team achieve its goals for many seasons to come.”

Team Lotus Chief Executive Officer Riad Asmat: “This is another very positive step forward for Team Lotus. Mark’s appointment is a real statement of intent and Mark is someone Mike and a number of our senior design and engineering team have extensive experience of working with. Mike, Mark, Lewis, Marianne and Chief Engineer Jody Egginton have worked together at a number of front-running F1 teams which means our core technical team has extensive experience of working together. This gives us a very solid platform for the future development of the team and marks the next stage in the Team Lotus story.”

Team Lotus Team Principal Tony Fernandes has always believed that people are at the heart of all the businesses he is involved with. He echoed Riad’s comments, saying: “Team Lotus is a long-term project and since we first started in September 2009 we have been focusing on laying the foundations for sustained success. Mike’s long-term deal with us is an integral part of that plan and we continue to make the right investments to give him the tools to take us to the front of the grid, and Mark Smith is another good example of that strategy. Mark joins a group of extremely talented, passionate and hard working people at Team Lotus who have already enjoyed a number of significant achievements in a short period of time, and his input will immediately help us take our challenge to the next level this year, in 2012 and beyond.”

Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20: "Overall we can be very happy aboutthis Friday. I think we've seen an improvement today on where wewere and throughout the sessions we could see that we were gettingmore and more out of the new package. The gap to the cars aheadseems reasonably small so I think it's all positive. The key pointis that there is a lot more to come out of it. Optimising the wholeupdate will take time and even though the car felt good on both theoptions and the primes we know that after going through the datatonight we can make more improvements tomorrow, and in the comingraces."

Jarno Trulli, Car 21: "A bit of a mixed day for me. The teammade a change to my steering in the morning session which meant Icouldn't complete the program in FP1 but in the afternoon sessionwe completed a decent number of laps and I could start to feelwhere we have found some improvements on the car. For much of theday I didn't really feel like I was getting the most out of it butwe have found some of the pace we want to with the updates and withmore work there is clearly much more to come."

Thierry Salvi, Renault Sport F1 Support Leader: "In FP1 westruggled a bit with Jarno as we had a couple of mechanical issueswhich needed to be resolved during the session. That cut into theprogram but we redoubled our efforts in FP2 and have had some goodfeedback from both drivers, especially from Jarno on the newpackage overall. We have generated a great deal of data from themileage we completed today so we will analyse that and look toimplement it in FP3 and qualifying tomorrow."

Mike Gascoyne, Chief Technical Officer: "That was a veryinteresting and useful day, and good to put so many laps on the newpackage. As we expected the behaviour of the car is now quitedifferent to what we have been working with so far this season andit will take a lot of fine tuning to get the best out of all theimprovements, but I think that on the soft tyre and the longer runswe could clearly see some of the improvements we were aiming for. There are obviously areas we need to focus on, but those can all bedialled out, so all in all this has been a good day with the newpackage, well done to the whole team for working hard to get it allworking so well on the car on its debut and I am sure there is muchmore to come."

Tony Fernandes, Team Principal: "I always thought it would takesome time for us to maximise the potential of the updates we haveapplied here, especially for the drivers who have basically a newrear end of the car to get to grips with. However, I am very happywith the mileage we have accumulated today and the fact we arefaster than we have been before. I cannot remember a Friday when wehave run so many laps and that has given us a lot of very usefuldata for Marianne and her team to work on in the wind-tunnel. Weclearly performed very well on the options, maybe not so well onthe primes, but for me, even though I am not a veteran of thissport, I knew it would take time to integrate the updates so I keeprealistic goals and know that we will keep working hard and movingforward step by step."

Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20: "This is obviously a great dayfor Team Lotus and I want to thank everyone here and back at thefactory for working so hard to get us to this next step in ourstory. There is a lot more to come from this car and while we haveperformed really well today we can see that we can keep progressingand taking the fight to the cars around us on merit. With the workwe did overnight and in FP3 I can feel that we have found a muchbetter balance in the high-speed corners, and we can work more onhow it feels in the low speed corners which is where I think wewill find even more time, but for now this is a good feeling andputs us into a good position for the race tomorrow."
Jarno Trulli, Car 21: "First I want to congratulate to thewhole team for getting Heikki into Q2. That's a great achievementfor us and a sign of what's to come. For me the session wasinterrupted by what looks like an electrical issue that meant I wasstuck in second gear when I went out for my first run, but wechanged the steering wheel and I managed to get a lap in right inthe last few seconds that still put me ahead of Rubens, so we'llstart tomorrow from 18th and with the pace we have in the car inrace conditions I think we'll have a good afternoon."
Thierry Salvi, Renault Sport F1 Support Leader: "We workedhard last night on the data from yesterday and in this morning'ssession we were able to do more work with the floor and the newexhaust which I think helped us perform so well today. Heikkireaching Q2 is very good news for the whole team, and we feel thatthere is a lot more to come. Rather than just working on differentparts of the car and making those parts work, we will be able tomake them work well together and the results of this will continueto be seen as we progress through the season. The plan for tomorrowis to keep our focus on maintaining our reliability. Theperformance matters throughout the race, not just in qualifying, and we need to see how the tyre degradation influences our strategybut for now congratulations to everyone and we must enjoy thisfeeling today."
Mike Gascoyne, Chief Technical Officer: "That is a verypleasing result and thank you to the whole team for today's result. We took advantage of the misfortune that befell a couple of theother cars but Heikki did a great job to get the best out of hisruns today, and Jarno put in a strong performance to get in adecent time at the end of Q1 after a gearbox problem cut into hisfirst run. Now the important thing is to focus on having a goodrace tomorrow and learning as much as we can about the upgrades wehave brought here over a race distance."
Tony Fernandes, Team Principal: "I am so thrilled. It isalmost unbelievable but this is a great day for Team Lotus and justreward for the effort that the whole team keeps putting in. I am sothrilled for everyone associated with our team. Heikki did afantastic lap and the whole team worked together brilliantly togive him the chance to take his car into Q2, and on top of thatJarno managed to put in a great lap in the dying seconds to puthimself into 18th place under a great deal of pressure. We have alot of work to do so we are not going to get carried away, but itis important that we enjoy days like this and the feeling thatcomes with hard work being rewarded with this sort of result. As Ikeep saying, these small steps will keep us moving up the grid, sowell done and thank you to everyone."

Jarno Trulli, Car 21: "The race was really good. It wasanother great start for me, another strong start this season, sothat was very positive. I gained a number of positions and wasright in the race in the beginning. Obviously with soft tyres ourcar was looking better than it did with the hard tyres and thatgave us a very good first couple of stints. Unfortunately towardsthe middle of the race I felt I had a problem with the exhaustwhich affected the rear end of the car and meant that myperformance was not as good as earlier. But all in all, it was avery good race for me. I fought like a lion and I'm happy withmyself and felt that I really got the best out of the car today. There's still a bit of work to do to catch up with the guys infront, but it's fantastic that we've lapped the guys behind us onceagain. The overall aero package is good - we just need to focus ondeveloping that for the future and increase the gap even more fromthe guys behind, and keep on closing the distance to the carsahead."
Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20: "It's a real shame my afternooncame to an end like that. I made a mistake on the entry to turnfour and went off but up until that point the race was pretty good. Both Jarno and I were right in the mix early on and we werefighting in the midfield for a lot of the race but then the tyresstarted to go off and the early pace wasn't there for the laterstages of the afternoon. Maybe we should have pitted earlier on butwe've still learnt a lot from this weekend and can take that toMonaco where I think it will be a very interesting weekend foreveryone."
Thierry Salvi, Renault Sport F1 Support Leader: "We had agood start, particularly Jarno, and in the early stages of the racethe pace was ok. Later on we had to manage a couple of small issueson Jarno's car which somewhat compromised his overall speed so wehad to manage those throughout the race, but the point is that wehave seen the potential of the car. We have made quite a lot ofchanges over the weekend and now we need to work hard to understandhow to maximise the whole package, in set-up and translating thatinto performance."
Mike Gascoyne, Chief Technical Officer: "That was a longhard race that was all about managing the tyres. Both driversstarted well but Heikki suffered some damage to his front wing thathelped Jarno get past. From then on the pace was good. We weretrying to stay on three stops and maybe stopped a little late inthe first stint, but in the end it was a shame we were not able toget both cars to the flag. Heikki made a small mistake on lap 52and then Jarno had a cracked exhaust which meant we had to keep aneye on that, but overall we have made real progress this weekendand have amassed a great deal of data on the new package that willhelp us learn how to get the most out of all the changes, so it isanother positive weekend for the whole team."
Kamarudin Meranun, Deputy Team Principal: "The wholeweekend has been pretty good for us. We had an excellent result inqualifying and had reasonably high hopes for the race but we alwaysknew it would be tough to replicate what we did on Saturdayafternoon over the race distance. We started well and were lookinggood in the early stages of the race but then Heikki's accidentbrought his race to an early end and Jarno was pushing as hard ashe could on the hard tyres for the final stint but finished acredible 18th. There are a number of positives to take from thisafternoon - we were able to fight with the established teams andhave shown that we are consistently improving, little by little. That is the key goal for this year and we keep moving forward so weleave Spain pretty pleased overall."

Jarno Trulli, Car 21 - Chassis T128-03: "Monaco is a unique race and one that is challenging, slightly chaotic and a bit mad, for the drivers and all the teams. Everywhere you move there are people who want to come up and say hi, and that's great but after almost a week it adds to the pressure, but we all just get on with it as it's the same for everyone. I'm very proud to have won here and count myself so lucky that I can say I'm a Monaco winner. I remember when I won it was so busy - I went to the dinner with the Prince that night and that was special, but the minutes and hours straight after the race were almost more intense than the race itself! However, I don't really like looking back. It'll be great for my kids in the future to know their Dad can say he won Monaco, but for me I want to keep looking ahead.

"I think this year the race will be fascinating. We've already seen how much the tyres are influencing the qualifying and race strategies, and here that could be even more true. We're on the super softs and the softs here so I don't think there will quite the same difference in lap times as there was in Spain. Obviously in Monaco aero performance is less important but I think strategy will play a critical role and we have some very good guys looking after that so I think we'll be ok."

Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20 - Chassis T128-04: "Straight after Barcelona we go to Monaco where we take on one of the most fascinating challenges of the season. You obviously need a good car but you don't necessarily need the peak performance that you have to have at some of the other circuits, as the demands on aero are lessened by the nature of the track. As it's a temporary street circuit it's very dirty at the start of the race weekend and experience plays a massive part in how well you perform whenever you're in the car. I've always felt very comfortable in Monaco and as the performance difference between the cars is always less around here I hope we can use our experience to take the fight to the guys ahead. There has been some talk about the use of DRS there and even though it's only at certain parts of the track I'll definitely be using it whenever I'm on full throttle, and I think that's true for the whole grid. As we don't have KERS it's important we use whatever we can to keep fighting so there's no question of not using it. I'm very comfortable with DRS and I don't think it'll be a distraction at all. We'll just get on with it."

Tony Fernandes, Team Principal: "Unfortunately I won't be in Monaco this year but I will be watching every second from Malaysia and will be supporting the whole team as much as I can from several thousand miles away! Monaco is obviously a special place for Team Lotus. The Principality has been the scene of many of the moments that makes Team Lotus such an iconic name in the sporting world and it's very pleasing that in our team's 2011 guise we go back there after another positive weekend in the previous race. I was so pleased with the whole team's performance in Spain and even though we didn't record the race finish that perhaps we would have wanted to, we showed that our measured progress is bringing rewards, this time in the shape of Q2 on strategy and pace. I think that Monaco could be another race where we can use the tyres quite aggressively in qualifying and the race, use strategy to give the teams ahead another reason to look over their shoulders and keep on learning, and that is the keys to our long-term success. Use all the assets at our disposal as intelligently as we can, set realistic targets and then go out and achieve them. Monaco is another chance for us to do just that and I hope it is another great weekend for the whole team."

Jarno Trulli, Car 21 - Chassis T128-03: "That was good. We'vegot a good deal of data from both sessions and we can use thatto put us in a better position tomorrow. I had a few issueswith traffic during the performance run which means there isdefinitely more pace to come tomorrow so all in all this was agood day. We've also run reliably in both sessions and that'swhat we need to give us the best chance of fighting in qualiso I think it'll be a very interesting Saturdayafternoon."
Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20 - Chassis T128-04: "Not too bad atall. We completed the whole programme, worked a bit on finetuning the balance and I think with some more work tonightthere's a bit more to come. The degradation levels on bothtyres was better than many people were expecting and I thinkboth the primes and the options will give us some interestingstrategy options to play with."
Thierry Salvi, Renault Sport F1 Support Leader: "This was agood day. We have put a lot of miles on the cars and with theunique nature of this track we can have driveability problemsso it's important to set up the engine to give the driverssomething they are happy with. The feedback we have had so farlooks like we have found a good setup so I think we are setfor a good P3 and qualifying."
Mike Gascoyne, Chief Technical Officer: "A very useful first dayof running with no mechanical issues with either car. Thetrack had its normal issues with dirt and traffic but overallwe're very happy. Tyre degradation looks to be much lower thanexpected and we have accumulated a lot of data that will begood for the race. In performance terms we are really quiteclose to the cars in front and with the improvements we expectto see on Saturday I think this has been another good day forthe team."
Riad Asmat, Chief Executive Officer: "That sort of performanceis very encouraging. It is good to see that we have we hadanother day without reliability problems and today everythingwent how we wanted it to. Finishing around half a second fromthe guys ahead gives us something to fight for in qualifyingand I think the experience we have in both cars, andthroughout the team, should give us a good chance of havinganother good day on Saturday."

WE ARE TEAM LOTUS

Team Lotus is very happy that the court case concerning therights to the Team Lotus name has today come to a positiveconclusion and that the team can now focus its full attention onits long-term challenge for honours on and off track. Thedecision confirms that Team Lotus is the true ownerof the full Team Lotus name and the iconic roundel, establishing in law that the Anglo-Malaysian team is the rightfulheir to Team Lotus and all associated goodwill.

Team Principal Tony Fernandes gave his comments on behalf of hisfellow shareholders Kamarudin Meranun, SM Nasarudin and the 250strong workforce based in Malaysia and Hingham, UK: "We are allpleased that it has been clarified that we are the rightful ownersof Team Lotus. We have always been confident that the factualevidence we presented would lead to this decision and today'sjudgment confirms that belief. We are of course disappointedabout the decision that Group Lotus was entitled to end the ourlicence agreement in 2010. We entered into that contract on thebasis that we were beginning a long-term partnership with GroupLotus but unfortunately they then used technical breaches ofthe merchandising pre-notification process to bring thelicence and our partnership to an end. However, my fellowshareholders and I are firm believers that when one door closesanother door opens. In the early days of our agreement we realisedits termination was inevitable and as events have unfolded the endof the licence has proved positive for us, with many new avenuesbeing opened up as a result.

"We wanted to develop a long-term relationship with Group Lotusand help them sell more cars around the world but that door closedand now we are delighted that we can turn our attention to ensuringsuccess for Caterham Cars on the road and Team Lotus on track. These are two very exciting brands and their futuredevelopment, bringing these two iconic brands together underthe Caterham Team Lotus umbrella, will see us introduce newCaterham cars and a range of new Team Lotus brands into the globalmarketplace. Now our main aim is to build on the solid foundationsthat has made Caterham Cars the model for how to run a profitablecontemporary car company and add more history to the incrediblestory of Team Lotus over the coming months and years and with thepeople, spirit, passion and determination we have in bothbusinesses we know that marks the next stage in our incrediblestory."

Team Lotus and Group Lotus plc - Clarification:

Team Lotus is very pleased with the judgment in the dispute with Group Lotus and does not intend to appeal any of the key findings. As Group Lotus has already announced its intention to appeal the Judge's decision on the headline argument in this case it is clear they do not feel they have won. There are a number of points that are interesting to note in the Judge's findings which invalidate any claim of victory by Group Lotus in the main cause of this action:

- The Judge ruled that Team Lotus owns the separate goodwill in the "Team Lotus" name and roundel and we cannot be prevented by Group Lotus from using either of them in relation to Formula 1 racing.  This was their headline argument in this case and the primary objective of Group Lotus was to stop us racing under the Team Lotus name. On this point they have lost.

- Until 1985 Group Lotus and Team Lotus had their own separate pools of goodwill in respect of the two separate businesses - the road car operation as one entity and the Formula 1 team as another.  The claim by Group Lotus to have always owned the goodwill in Team Lotus failed.

- Having clearly established that there were two separate pools of goodwill the judgement also establishes that the goodwill in the Team Lotus name and roundel has continued and still survives - it has not been eliminated by non-use.  The claim by Group Lotus on that point has failed.

- It has also been established that there is no confusing similarity between Team Lotus and Lotus.  As there is independent goodwill in the mark Team Lotus it is not confusingly similar to Lotus.  Group Lotus cannot stop Team Lotus racing under the name we own, so again, Group Lotus has failed in their main cause of action.

- Although goodwill in the "Team Lotus" name and mark subsists, our trade marks for the Team Lotus name and roundel have been revoked for non use between 2003 and 2008.  This however has no impact upon our ability to continue to use the "Team Lotus" trade marks, and indeed to re-register them.

- The only point that Group Lotus won on, and could therefore claim any sort of victory, was the point that the Judge himself referred to in paragraph three of his judgment as "less important".  The Judge found in their favour that Team Lotus had breached the licence agreement by producing merchandising without pre-approval and that Group Lotus was therefore entitled to terminate.  This has no bearing whatsoever on the key question as to whether Team Lotus is allowed to continue to race under the Team Lotus name.

Heikki Kovalainen, Car 20 - Chassis T128-04: "Before Italk about the sessions today I want to say that it's good to hearthat Sergio is conscious and talking. I've had a big accidentmyself and know what it's like for the team, friends and family asyou wait for news, so I hope he's back on track soon.
"In quali it was quite a tricky session for me today, butI'm reasonably pleased with where I ended up. My first run didn'treally go to plan - I definitely didn't get the best out of thetyres so I had to really go for it with the second set and that wasdefinitely better, but not quite enough to get into Q2. But the gapto the cars ahead is pretty close and I think we'll be oktomorrow."
Jarno Trulli, Car 21 - Chassis T128-03: "That was a bitunlucky for us. The car's not been responding as I'd like all dayand the tyres were behaving strangely - the first set was mega andthe second set were really poor, so I'm not too sure where we'regoing wrong. I know I could have gone much quicker on the secondrun with more rubber on the track but for some reason I was onlymarginally faster which is why we ended up where we did. Tomorrowin the race we'll keep our heads down, run to our plan and see whathappens around us. I'm sure there will be places to pick up solet's wait and see. I also want to say that I hope Sergio is ok.That was a massive shunt and I hope we have more good news abouthim soon."
Thierry Salvi, Renault Sport F1 Support Leader: "DuringFP3 we worked more on the driveability of the engine which is themost important aspect of engine behaviour here. We had goodfeedback from the drivers who were both happy, especially in theslow speed corners where the engine is reacting in a good way butunfortunately in qualifying we were not able to get into Q2, butwere pretty close. Both cars were very close to each other so wehave clearly found a good, consistent setup, but I think westruggled a bit with the tyres and that is what has stopped uspushing into Q2 today. I also want to echo what the whole team hassaid about Sergio - I hope he's ok and recovers soon."
Mike Gascoyne, Chief Technical Officer: "Firstly weobviously hope that Sergio Perez is in good shape following hisaccident. Our best wishes are with him and the whole Sauber team. For us that was a reasonably good qualifyign session. Jarno wasreporting more grip than in the morning but he couldn't get themost out of his second set of tyres, but overall we are close tothe group in front and we look forward to a strong racetomorrow."
Riad Asmat, Chief Executive Officer: "To begin with I wantto say that I hope Sergio Perez recovers quickly. He had a bigaccident and the early news is that he's taken a knock but is ok sothat's encouraging.
"On track I think we knew we would probably struggle toget into Q2 here as the performance difference between the tyrecompounds doesn't give us the same chance we had in Spain to playwith the strategies. Despite that we have had a good, reliableweekend so far and the aim is definitely to have both cars crossthe finish line tomorrow. We have obviously had a couple of piecesof good news so far this weekend so perhaps tomorrow will bring ussomething else to cheer."
