REMINDER: SECURITIES COMMISSION’S GUIDELINES ON ONLINE UNIT TRUST ACTIVITIES
This is a reminder on the Securities Commission’s “Guidelines on Online Transactions and Online Activities in Relation to Unit Trusts” issued on 19 August 2008.
Under item 3.01 of the guidelines, online activities with relation to unit trusts refer to the utilisation of the internet or other electronic mediums to market, promote, distribute or provide information related to collective investment schemes while online provider refers to a person who has been approved to provide any facilities for online transactions or online activities with relation to unit trusts, and is limited to the following persons:
a) Management companies
b) Institutional Unit Trust Advisers (IUTA)
c) Other entities as may be determined by Securities Commission (SC) in accordance with such terms and conditions as the SC deems fit.
We would like to remind all unit trust consultants (UTCs) and Private Retirement Scheme consultants (PRCs) to refrain from any marketing activities of Pxxxxxxxxxxxx’s unit trust and private retirement schemes’ products on UTCs’ and PRCs’ personal websites, blogs, social media platforms and/or any other electronic mediums, including emails. This includes posting of the prospectuses, fund fact sheets, product highlight sheets (PHS), fund visuals, web banners, KWSP materials and keywords or pop-up advertisements which directly relate to one or more funds.
The management views non-compliance of said guidelines as a serious offence and will take stern action against any UTCs/PRCs in the event that they are found to be in breach of any of the above.
If you need further clarification, kindly refer to your respective branch managers.
Thank you.
