In 1980, the Datsun 120Y (which was the Malaysian market name for the Nissan Sunny B310) was priced at approximately RM13,579 in Malaysia. Air conditioning was typically an optional extra, costing an additional RM1,500 to RM2,000.
The subsequent model, the Nissan Sunny 130Y (B11 generation), was officially launched later by Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) in 1983, with prices ranging from RM19,800 to RM21,850.
The launching prices for the 1985 Proton Saga were RM17,575 for the 1.3S model and RM19,005 for the 1.5S model. These prices made the Saga the first Malaysian car an accessible and reliable option for many citizens at the time.
