KUCHING: Local shoppers and bargain hunters now have better access to more affordable goods and products, following the opening of Mydin hypermarket here.
The Malaysian chain of hypermarkets, supermarkets and emporiums officially opened its Samariang branch – its first in the state and 22nd in the country – yesterday.
After this, the retailer plans to set up two more branches here by early next year.
The second branch will be at CityONE Megamall here by December this year, while the third at Vista Tunku (opposite SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg in Petra Jaya) is expected to operate by January next year. Mydin managing director Datuk Wira Ameer Ali Mydin, who disclosed this after the launch of Mydin Samariang here, believed that about 1,000 jobs would be created in view of these new branch openings in Sarawak.
He said this would relatively bring down the unemployment rate in the State and at the same time, Mydin could play its role in educating employees on the wholesale business.
According to him, Mydin has invested RM70 million for its Samariang branch here, and it is expected to inject another RM25 million for Mydin CityONE and RM180 million for Mydin Vista Tunku. On Mydin Samariang, Ameer said the location was picked after taking a number of socio-economic and demographic factors into account.
“In line with the concept to offer affordable products, we will make sure that the prices offered at Mydin Samariang are reasonable.
“It is also hoped that Mydin Samariang would help boost the economy of the local community, besides promoting Samariang as a centre that offers wholesale items,” he said, assuring shoppers that Mydin would continue to comply with syariah requirements to ensure that all food items sold were halal.
“This represents one of the best approaches to attract more customers to our premises. Hence, we will make sure that no non-halal food is sold at Mydin.”
The Mydin mall in Samariang has a surau for men and women, automated teller machine (ATM), 454 carpark spaces including the physically challenged (OKU), baby strollers and wheelchairs.
