"Fernando Torres was examined by a knee specialist this afternoon in Spain.  He received treatment and will continue to do so over the next few days, with the injury being reassessed later this week."

Fernando Torres is in danger of missing out on an emotional return to Atletico Madrid for a second time after being booked in for further treatment on his knee injury.

The Liverpool striker, who was sidelined by injury when the sides met in the Champions' League, was hoping for the all-clear to resume training after being examined by a specialist in Barcelona yesterday.

上赛季冠军杯小组赛利物浦碰上马德里竞技时，小托也是因伤缺阵。昨天在巴塞罗那专家会诊后，利物浦金童渴望能得到许可恢复训练以备战。

Instead, he will receive more treatment in Spain over the next few days before being reassessed towards the end of the week, in a setback that casts doubt over his hopes of being fit for the Europa League semi-final with Atletico on April 22 and 29.

AS I write this column we're not yet sure about the extent of Fernando Torres's knee injury, writes Ian Rush in the Echo.

There must have been some temptation to play him against Fulham though.

It wasn't anything like his best game against Benfica last week but his two goals showed again just how dangerous he can be at any given time.

He got quite heavily kicked away at Benfica. Eventually it takes its toll but he continues to set the standards.

Thursday, 15 April 2010Fernando Torres will return to Liverpool's Melwood training ground tomorrow where his injured right knee will continue to be assessed. The Spain international travelled to
Barcelona at the weekend to see specialist Dr Ramon Cugat, the surgeon who in January performed the operation on the torn meniscus which kept him out for a month.

Liverpool FC have confirmed that striker Fernando Torres will undergo surgery on a knee injury later this evening.

A club spokesman said: "Fernando saw a specialist in Spain earlier today and it was decided that he would need surgery on a torn cartilage in his right knee.
