First things first. David De Gea quite clearly has doubts over whether he wants to extend his contract with Manchester United. The Spanish goalkeeper's current deal runs out in June 2016 and had he been really keen to sign one then he would have done so by now. Nobody needs too long to work that one out. There is serious and warranted doubt about the future of De Gea and Real Madrid would seem the likeliest option. In Spain there is a claim every week that De Gea is agreeing to this or that, but on Friday comments from Josep Pedrerol have received far more coverage than they deserve. Pedrerol is an experienced anchor of Spanish football gossip programmes. It's hard to explain to audiences outside Spain what he does and what those programmes are like... there is nothing comparable on British TV. Pedrerol fronted Punto Pelota which was widely regarded to be the football TV show spouting the most nonsense - it was a standing joke in Spain. Claims were made by people such as Francois Gallardo, the same Gallardo who has in the past claimed to be an agent working on various deal including John Terry to Valencia and Didier Drogba to Barcelona. Of course, that was all nonsense but that's what Gallardo does - and his wildest claims were set to mood music. Along with Pedrerol and Gallardo, Pipi Estrada was a main man of Punto Pelota and he's a celebrity in Spain, appearing in reality TV shows and using crazy football rumours to up his profile. He's been caught posting images of his genitals on the internet and we'd warn anyone against doing a Google image search of the guy - from bitter experience. All three and the rest of the gang moved from the ashes of Punto Pelota to 'Chiringuito de Jugones' which is basically the same programme under a different name. The programme today decided to talk about Real Madrid's goalkeeper situation, one claim from Gallardo was that the club are looking to bring in Stoke City's Asmir Begovic, another claim went back to De Gea and the panel - as they clearly love to do - argued and competed to display who was most in the know. This was all to a background of mood music - you really couldn't make it up. (Well, you could - and that's probably the point) Estrada (the often naked one) said that Florentino Perez and Jorge Mendes had talked about the situation in recent days and Pedrerol tried to trump that by saying De Gea wants to go regardless of what Iker Casillas does. De Gea may very well go to Real Madrid for whatever reason but what is said by the guys mentioned is really of no concern to Manchester United.
