KUALA TERENGGANU: There was one upset pulled of by the men's back-up squad players in the Proton National Grand Prix Finals but for coach Rashid Sidek, the outing was still a big disappointment.

On Thursday, 20-year-old Liew Daren turned the tables on Kuan Beng Hong, who eventually withdrew from the tournament due to fever, in a group match.

But a day after the big win, Liew went down to Bukit Jalil Sports School's (BJSS) Lim Fang Yang.

Besides Liew Daren, the others – Chong Wei Feng, Lim Kenn and Chong Li Qun – were also eliminated from the tournament.

Their performances were inconsistent.

Rashid said he was disappointed with the lack of mental strength among the youngsters.

“I was not impressed with any one of them. After winning against Beng Hong, Daren lacked confidence and lost to Fang Yang. The others played well but put undue pressure on themselves,” said Rashid.

“Their main weakness is their lack of the mental strength. They show great commitment in training but I do not see the same fire in them during competition. Now, I have to keep on motivating them to be brave on the court,” he said.

Rashid said the men's singles players would now be heading for the German Open and Bahrain Satellite.

Those making the trip to Germany are Daren, Lim Kenn, Tan Chun Seang and Beryno Wong while Wei Feng and Li Qun will head to Bahrain.

這些球員包括陳俊翔、林生勤、劉國倫、張維峰、黃健芝、張利群、張國盛和沙哈魯汀。

想问一下2010-2012辉煌计划队里，所有的球员全都是年轻球员吗？
是不是全都不超过20/21岁？

Badminton: New coaching set-up

KUALA LUMPUR: Rashid Sidek will groom his Project 2010-12 players to win honours at the SEA Games at the end of the year while Misbun Sidek will work on lifting the standard of four back-up shuttlers through a punishing training regime.

All the coaches – Rashid, Misbun, newly appointed singles coach Wong Tat Meng, Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) chief coach Sun Chenhua, national chief coach Yap Kim Hock – together with the Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) general manager, Kenny Goh, had a meeting yesterday at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here yesterday to draw up plans for the year.

They also decided on the distribution of players to come under the charge of Tat Meng, Rashid and Misbun. Targets were also set for each group.

Rashid, who will be in charge of 26 players, said that his group's main target was the SEA Games in Thailand in December and as part of their preparations, players would get to play in selected overseas tournaments.

“They will compete in two or three-star rated Open tournaments. They will also compete in the Super Series if they are among the qualifiers.  

“Ultimately, we want them to be ready for the task at the SEA Games,” said Rashid.

“We have also decided that our players will have joint training at least once a week. It will certainly benefit my players and add more quality to their game.

“My squad will also have joint training sessions with the BJSS side. In fact, Lydia (Cheah), who is currently gearing up for the World Juniors this year, has been sparring with our players every morning.”

After handling only Mohd Hafiz Hashim for a year, Misbun welcomed the opportunity to coach four players from the back-up squad – Chan Kwong Beng, Lok Chong Chieh, Zairul Hafiz Zainuddin and Syed Akhbar Mustakim.

The four, who completed their Form Five studies at the BJSS in 2005, were on a six-month probation with Rashid's squad last year.

Of the four, Kwong Beng and Zairul had done well in junior tournaments. Kwong Beng won the national schools (MSSM) title in 2005 while Zairul emerged as the boys' Under-18 champion in the 100Plus national junior circuit Grand Finals.

“My priority is on Hafiz but I am happy to get a chance to keep an eye on four youngsters. They lack exposure and it is my job to develop them to become top players,” said Misbun.

“I want them to be disciplined. They can expect punishing training sessions. I want them to be challenging the seniors in local Open tournaments this year. They will also be out to win satellite tournaments.

“I will also use them as sparring players for Hafiz. I will be shuttling between the Bukit Jalil and Bukit Kiara training centres. At Bukit Jalil, there will be joint training sessions with Tat Meng's group and at Kiara, I will work together with Rashid's group. It is an ideal set-up for me.”

While both the Sidek brothers will have their hands full in developing players, Tat Meng's task is on getting the players ready for the All-England (March 6-11) and the World Championships (Aug 13-19).

“The training will continue as usual for the players. Except for (Wong) Choong Hann and (K.) Yogendran, all the other players have been given a break for the Chinese New Year. They know what are the main tournaments this year,” he said.

On the fate of James Chua, Yeoh Kay Bin and Yogendran, Tat Meng said: “Their services are needed until the world meet. We will review their performances after that. I have set targets for them too.”

Said Kim Hock: “All the coaches have vowed to work together. The three groups (elite, back-up and BJSS) will be inter-dependent.  

“They will also be on their toes as each group is expected to meet the targets set. It is good for the sport.”

（吉隆坡16日讯）拉锡西迪将负责培训他的2010－2012计划队球员，放眼在月杪的东运会争取荣誉，米斯文则通过严格训练提升4名后备队成员的水平。

所有教练，包括拉锡、米斯文、新任男单教练黄达明、武吉加里尔体育学校教练孙成华，国家队总教练叶锦福，联同大马羽总总经理吴智强，昨日在冠军体育场开会，共同讨论长年计划。

他们也确定了黄达明、拉锡及米斯文的球员分配。每个组也圈定本身的目标。

负责训练26名球员的拉锡说，他们的首要目标是12月的泰国东运会，而作为备战的一部分，球员将获得机会参与一些国际赛。

拉锡说：“他们会参与两或三星级的公开赛。他们也将参与超级系列赛，若他们晋级入选赛。”

“最重要的是，我们要他们准备东运会的重担。”

“我们的球员也将与成年队联合训练，每周一次。这肯定将让我的球员受益，增加他们的比赛素质。”

“我的队伍也会与武吉加里尔进行联合训练。事实上，备战今年世界青年赛的谢丽雅已经在每个早上与我们的球员对打。”

目前仅训练哈菲兹一人的米斯文，将迎接4名新成员加入，他们是曾光明、骆宗杰、再鲁及赛益阿尔巴。

4人之中，光明及再鲁再在青年赛表现突出。光明在2005年赢取大马学联赛冠军，而再鲁在全国青年大奖赛总决赛，夺得18岁以下组冠军。

米斯文说：“我的重点还是在哈菲兹，但我很开心得到机会看守4名年轻球员。他们缺少经验，我的任务是培训他们成为顶尖球员。”

担任李矛助手两年的黄达明责任重大，他将协助球员备战全英赛（3月6日至11日）及世界锦标赛（8月13日至19日）。

他说：“球员将继续平时的训练。除了综翰及尤根德兰，其他球员都在农历新年获得休息。他们已经知道今年的重大赛会是什么。”

叶锦福说：“所有教练将携手合作。三个组都是独立的。”

张伟峰最近有参加什么比赛吗？
能不能介绍介绍他？他这个球员不了解。。。

有点不明白一点，哈少不是国家队的，那为什么他的教练是国家队的呢？
