CindyL,

What will you do after STPM? Are you accepted into government university? Or will you study in private college?

STPM results will be released on the 16th of March, after receiving the results I'll apply for public university online, then I'll wait till June and see if my application is accepted, if it's accepted then cheers, I'm going to university...if not, I may have to work for a while till I accumulate enough money for private tertiary education...or if I'm in luck, a relative may sponsor me my private education funds hopefully. I'm not very well off, you see.

Yeah...it's interesting indeed...some people would just direct us to the cari.com English forum if we intend to speak English on these boards...but what's frustrating is, the so-called cari.com English forum is mostly in Malay! And broken Malay at that. Definitely not a place for us to learn English from. So this thread is like a saviour for us people who want to learn & express ourselves in English.

hey guys, i don't intend to throw over a wet blanket, but i think it is rather important to make it clear that this is a chinese cari forum which implys only chinese language is allowed...and please do not misuse it to post everything in english!

we do have a forum dedicated to non-chinese right?don't we?hehehe...
i know that i am being typically sarcastic in this, but just a reminder though.

Lastly, ENGLISH RULES~!
(*oopsy, that is too much right?hahahaha....)

I think the majority of us are rather clear about this, thank you.
(Except the deluded few, but let's not go into that, lol)
除了这个帖子之外,在chinese.cari.com.my任何的帖子上都必须使用中文!谢谢合作!!!

How about BANANAs? Are they Chinese?

Since we haven't been warned by any moderator, so I think we could still chat in English... hahahaha...
Isn't this subforum especially for non-Chinese languages?

hmm...
i didn't say anything about "bananas", did i? non-chinese means races other than chinese, gua...
but i am very doubtful of calling them chinese to tell you the truth,
especially those who do not even how to communicate in chinese...
don't you just hate to talk to them?
not that my english is illiteratable but since we are belong to the same ancestor,
and our ancestor DO speak the same language right?
apart from the dialects, they SPOKE chinese when in formal cases, right?

Some Bananas did not choose to be Bananas. Maybe their parents sent them to non-Chinese school, maybe they are not living in a "Chinese" environment.

What I don't like is their attitude - some thought that Chinese educated Chinese will never speak English well like them, and they look down on Chinese language. But the truth is, many can speak both Chinese, as well as English (much better than Bananas!). I found that most Bananas who have this attitude are Malaysians or Singaporeans. Those from the States or other western countries do not behave like that.

I don't understand why some are so proud to be studying in English schools? By the way, the so-called "English" schools are actually Malay schools, because the medium of instruction has already been changed from English to Malay. So, these Bananas are in fact Malay educated instead of English educated. These Bananas' English are not better than Chinese educated Chinese. A good example: some Bananas from Malaysia at my schools have to take ESL before they could enter the regular degree program.

The real English educated Bananas are at least 40 to 50 years old. They studied in "authentic" English schools, before the government changed the medium of instruction. The real English schools now are those international and private schools (for the very rich!).

I don't dislike Bananas, as long as they don't show contempt on Chinese language. How can one look down on his or her own culture? English is important, but it cannot replace Chinese.

Well, if they speak in good and proper English, I don't mind.
But unfortunately, most of them use broken English, it's so bad ..... it's a nuisance to me.

i'm totally agreed with what u've said, 翼以亿! i have the same feeling with u there! just couldn't understood why those BANANAS are so "proud" that they don't know MANDARIN? why so proud of it, as they are unable speak their mother-tongue! i'm so so so glad that my parents sent me to a chinese school, and now i'm "multi-languages", which is an advantage in almost everything!i don't need a translator in a chinese restaurant,  i can talk to a foreigner on the street and things like that! thanks, papa n mama! love you all!

I'm grateful that my parents decided to send me to chinese schools, even though the reason was because english schools were extinct and they didn't want me to study in a malay school. Both of my parents were english-educated, and now that me and my siblings are chinese-educated, the two "oldsters" have also taken up mandarin and can speak simple mandarin with us. Before this they could only speak their respective dialects.
