My doc also suggested me to give birth to my LO when I was 35 weeks at 1.9kg, and my doc is very well known and famous which always handle complication cases eg older mommies, twin, triples, premature and so on. As she said, after 35 weeks actually is consider 'term' baby, all their organs already developed and function properly, therefore it is not a big deal to deliver early, bcos for the rest of the weeks, baby just gaining weight in the worm only, if deliver early baby still can gain weight via milk.
As my doc said, some babies not growing well at the later stage has a higher risk of IUGR, whereby mommy's worn can suddenly stop supplying nutrient to the baby without any signs, in order to minimize this risk, we have to continuing count the baby's heartbeat, but when we asleep for 8hrs or more, the risk is there.
My sis has a friend, she always count the baby heartbeat, but when she admitted to hospital bcos of stomach pain, the baby already no movement in the stomach for 2 weeks already. Not sure how this happened.
I supposed to delivery at week 35, but at that week, baby doing very fine and gaining a little weight, doc not so worry and just asking me to continue to count the heartbeat, from that moment onward, i never have a good sleep, always worry any my baby. Besides, I am 34 years old, which make much higher risk.
At week 37, I suppose to schedule to include, but my doc was in MC, delayed to the following week, after all the arrangement, I was induced and delivery at week 39. I don't mind if I have to deliver early as long as the baby is healthy and zero risk.
U can get second and third opinion, but at last, the choice is ur. If u r confident ur baby will doing fine till natural contraction, it is still ur choice, doc just give his opinion and to minimize the risk for baby which u may not aware off.
