Before any critics come in, I would like to state that: I am a science person, I trust science facts and the comment below is purely my own opinion. Different people might judge the same incident differently. And, R.I.P to the deceased and stay strong my fellow Sabahans. Plus, forgive me for any of my grammatical error. Thanks.
Firstly, I disagree to the accusation of the stripped nudist on Mount Kinabalu – Emil and his fellow hikers to be the cause and reason of the recent incident of Sabah’s quake. Come on, it is 21st century anyway, since when my fellow Malaysians become so superstitious?
If you had watched the recent blockbuster movie – San Andreas starring Dwayne Johnson, then you should have knew why earthquake occurred.
Let’s talk about the movie itself, 800k over people in San Francisco vanished in the earthquake and tsunami which occurred. If same accusation or concept was applied to the movie, then someone might have done something NASTY, AWFUL and DISRESPECTFUL which had led to the entire population to die in vain. (Chill, just applying the same theory to the movie itself.)
~~THIS IS FOR EMIL AND HIS FELLOW HIKERS~~ and this applies to those who are about to visit other country in the future..
Although how much I disagree with the accusation, being raised in a country comprised of different ethnics and religions; we were taught since young to respect the customs and beliefs of other religions.
There is a famous saying which tells “when in Rome, do as the Romans do” or even in Mandarin “入乡随俗”, which when you are visiting to other country, you should behave like the people in that country.
So, when you decided to embark a journey to visit other country of different cultures and beliefs, you should have pre-prepared and researched about what is considered as an offence or disrespectful to the local. Of how much you disagree to some local practices or even how much ridiculous it is, you are bound to FOLLOW.
Since you are the guest and they are the host. A simple rule of Guest and Host, don’t you understand that?
Moreover, Malaysia being a typical Asian country, publicly nude is a great offence in terms of law. Don’t you know that?
Ok, let me tell you an example of another case which happened in Penang last year. A group of people from different countries (Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, India and Philippines) organized a “Malaysia Sports Nude Games 2014” in Teluk Bahang. These people received great critics from the local and even got themselves into trouble in the eye of law. (Now, I see you did not do your homework.)
And, don’t say it is a matter of open-minded or closed-minded issue!
You see, let us change the entire situation, if an “open-minded” Asian visited a church in a Western country, and he/she decided to go nude in front of the holy statue of Jesus Christ and also decided to pee in the corner of the church. (EXAMPLE ONLY)
Now, tell me what do you think? Is it an offence or disrespectful act? Or is it a pure innocent human nature? Get my point?
Go back to the incident; Mount Kinabalu is a sacred place of the local or native people of Sabah (Borneo) just like the church or anywhere else where people practice their beliefs. Don’t you think gone nude is inappropriate or not good to do so despite being warned?
I hope those who finish reading my long long comment can get my point.
Conclusion, this is not the right time to put the blame at someone else who happened to do the wrong thing, at the wrong time, in the wrong place. It is a time where we should stay together as one and do whatever we can for the deceased and victims of Sabah’s quake. Or the least we can do: PRAY FOR THEM in our very own religions.
Ok, being an outsider, I talked too much and it became a primary school essay. I rest my case here. Thanks again. |
