I'm Chinese Malaysian, not Thai.
My major is biology; I'm a senior - going to graduate this May!

seems like you should open a thread stating your nationality and reintroduce yourself to all the members here...
quite often been mistaken by a thai...
hehehe...

well, back to the topic you were talking about...
chinese new year is nothing just another day for me...
nothing is special as any other day for me here...
not that i don't like CNY, but the joyful feeling is not there anymore...
the kind of feeling that you often have whenever a festive season comes while you were young...
hehehe...
most probably maturity has taken away all the child-like behaviour i used to have...
probably...

At first I always called myself Malaysian Chinese. However, my lecturer (he is from the States!) told me that I should say Chinese Malaysian. Chinese living in the states are called Chinese Americans. So Chinese living in Malaysia are Chinese Malaysians.

that is exactly what i said...
chinese malaysia and malaysian chinese are two different thing...
there is an order for such a word to describe specifically 馬來西亞華人 from 中國馬來西亞人。
this what i guess, dont know whether you got what i said or not...
hehehe..

I think "a chinese Malaysian" is an immigrant from China into malaysia; and "a malaysian chinese" is a chinese (whose ancestors are imigrants from china) born in malaysia.

When I told others (especially Westerners!) that I'm a Malaysian Chinese, they would think I'm a Malaysian living in China. It was the Americans who told me I should use Chinese Malaysian instead of Malaysian Chinese. Anyway, I'm the third generation Chinese Malaysian; my granparents migrated from China. In addition, I don't see myself as part of Malaysia. So I don't mind calling myself Chinese Malaysian.

Hey everyone...finally, an english thread! Let me introduce myself. I'm Cindy, a KL-ian living and disliking live in Ipoh, currently slacking my days away awaiting for the doomed STPM results. Hopefully it'll bring me out of Ipoh and back to KL which I miss the most. I don't mind studying in states like Penang, Johor, Selangor and East Malaysia either.

CindyL,

What will you do after STPM? Are you accepted into government university? Or will you study in private college?
