The Russian fifth-generation fighter took off for its first flight in the Far East on Friday. The test flight was successful.
"Thefirst flight of the fifth-generation plane has been carried out today.It took place in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The plane was in the air for about45 minutes. The flight was normal. The plane proved itself very well.All our expectations for the first flight came true. The premiere wassuccessful," the Sukhoi company's spokeswoman Olga Kayukova said onRossiya 24 Television.
The flight was originally planned for Thursday, but postponed for the next day due to the unfavourable weather conditions.
The fighter is developed by the Sukhoi design office. The Komsomolsk-on-Amur aircraft-building company's specialists assembled the first model of the fifth-generation fighter, a promising combat aircraft. The pre-flight tests were carried out there successfully.
Experts point out its super manoeuvreability and the power of its on-board weapons. It is difficult to detect the plane with radars.
According to official sources, the Russian Defence Ministry plans to buy the aircraft beginning 2015. Until the time, Su-35s of the "four++" generation will be in service. Contracts are signed to supply 48 Su-35 planes to the Air Force.
