USM- SAINS & TECH 范圍
Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) The School offers three programmes at undergraduate level leading toBachelor of Technology, viz. Bio-resource, Paper and CoatingsTechnology, Food Technology, and Environmental Technology. Each of thethree programmes has its own distinct curriculum spread over threeyears (6 semesters). The main objective of the undergraduate programmeis to train and produce highly qualified and competent technologists intheir respective specialisation to serve the industry and public sectorin the country. The comprehensive three-year programme is designed tocover the fundamental science courses as well as engineering andtechnological aspects of processing/production, preservation, analysis,quality control, maintenance, etc. The technological component isprogressively increased as the student move into higher level of study.Every student is also required to undergo a minimum of eight weeksindustrial training at the end of the second year. The School ofTechnology Industry, USM has successfully produced highly qualifiedgraduates/technologists who have been widely accepted by both thepublic and private sectors.

Media Studies
Media Studies entails the in-depth view on the world of masscommunication, with emphasis on media content and structure, societyand culture. Established in 1976, the Department was first known as theCreative and Descriptive Writing Programme. In the 1993/1994session, the name changed to Department of Media Studies, in line withthe development of and new challenges in media and communicationstudies.
The Department of Media Studies offers four major programmes:
- Communication and Journalism Programme
- Broadcasting and Film Programme
- Publication and Multimedia Programme
- Creative Writing and Professional Writing Programme
The department offers various courses ranging from Creative,Descriptive and Professional Writing, Communication and Media Studies,New Media and media Technology, Philosophy and Logic, Publishing andMultimedia, Public Relation, Broadcasting and Film Theory and Criticism.
The Department of Media Studies provides its students with knowledgeand skills for the ample opportunities in the job market of journalism,public relations, advertising, publishing, creative writing filming andbroadcasting.
The method of evaluation is through assignments, class test and finalsemester examinations. Students who major in the department is requiredto write a project paper whereby the evaluation will be based on thereport produced.

Communicationis at the heart of human life. As individuals, we construct realitythrough intrapersonal communication, which in turn effectsinterpersonal relationships. Today, society receives a barrage ofinformation through increasingly sophisticated and complex mediasystems. Our ability to function effectively in an increasinglycommunication-rich environment depends on our ability to manage ourcommunication at personal, interpersonal, organisational, national andinternational levels.
Communicationstudies is one of the most exciting and fast growing disciplines inhigher education. The popularity of communication programme is due inpart to the tremendous changes taking place in computer-based andnetwork-based technologies which has resulted in a proliferation ofcommunication channels for human interaction, which in turn will have atremendous impact on every aspect of human life in the future.
Courses offered during the three years program are as below:
Year 1
Allsocial science students enrolled in the following courses during theirfirst academic year to provide them with basic social science conceptsessential for their development as social science graduates.
- SSF1014 - Introduction to Anthropology and Sociology
Anthropologyand sociology are two key sub-disciplines within the social sciences.These two sub-disciplines, though arising from different social andspatial contexts, are really inter-linked and should be viewed togetherso as to provide a more comprehensive understanding of human society. - SSF1023 - Contemporary Psychology
Thiscourse introduces psychology as scientific study of human and animalbehaviour. The emphasis is on the use of relevant psychological,cognitive and developmental theories to study how biological,psychological, and socio-cultural factors affects human developmentspecifically. Included in the discussion will be both the mental andphysical abilities, and the various sources of stress in relation tothe different stages of human development. The purpose of this courseis to show that human development and adaptation is a continuous anddynamic process of human life. - SSF1033 - Introduction to Malaysian Social History
Thiscourse introduces the students to the historical process, thedevelopment and the socio-economic transformation of the people ofMalaysia. Such changes are discussed, based on selected themes, tofurther understand Malaysia's present social structure. Students willanalyse levels of social development - traditional, colonial and postcolonial -, with emphasis on the process of structural change and thesocial system from one era to another from the historical, sociologicaland economic perspectives. - SSF 1044 - Modern Economics
Thiscourse is divided into four sections namely, Section I: Economics andYou, Section II: Understanding Basic Economic Concepts and Theories,Section III: Understanding National and Global Economy, and Section IV:Analysing Social Issues From Economic Perspectives. Section I exposesstudents to topics related to the meaning of economics as a field ofstudy, why we need to have some understandings of economics andeconomics problems. Section II concentrates on basic laws and theoriesof economics that include theory firm, market theories and governmentroles in the market system. Section III helps students to understandnational economic performance and its problems, national economicpolicies, money and banking system, foreign exchange, balance of tradeand the importance of trade among nations. Section IV gives studentsthe opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and knowledgeconcerning any current social issues they selected that is relevant totheir respective field of study. This course requires students toprepare two average length group-written assignments. The firstassignment is written in Bahasa Malaysia while the second one iswritten in English. - SSF1053 - Introduction to Political Sciences
ThisIntroductory course aims to expose students to various concepts,theories an philosophies within political science. It aims to assiststudents develop their cognitive skills in analysing contemporarypolitical issues. Apart from abstract political science discussions,this course will also explore and discuss contemporary global politicsas well as local Malaysian political issues. - SSF1063 - Statistics for Social Science
Thiscourse is and introduction to statistical concepts in social sciences.The course consists of : (1) descriptive statistic which coversunivariate and multivariate, probability, normal distribution andvariability sampling; (2) inferential statistic which deals withtesting of hypotheses, chi-square, analysis of variance (anova), linearcorrelation and regression analysis, and (3) non-parametric tests whichinclude Mann-Whitney, U-test and Rank correlation. - SSF 1073 - Community and Communication

SSF2013 - Social Science Research Methods
Thepurpose of this course is to give students exposure to the techniquesof doing research in the social sciences. Various types of researchdesign such as descriptive research, experiments, case studies,correlation studies, and expost facto research will be discussed.Students will be exposed to the various data collection techniquesincluding observation, survey, document analysis, historical datacollection, and library research. Data processing and analysis willalso be included in the discussion. Students will also get theexperience of using computer in data analysis and report writing. SSF2023 - Industrial Placement
Thispractical-oriented course is designed to enhance student'sinterpersonal skills and provide exposure in terms of professionalexperience in social work practice. Students are placed with anyrelevant social organisation of their choice with approval from thefaculty. Formal supervision will be provided during the placementperiod. The attachment is for a duration of not less than 10 weeks,preferably to be completed in the third semester of the second year.The focus of this program is to provide exposure to students on thevarious professional issues and problems related to the social workpractice. SSK 2013 - Communication Theory
Studentsare exposed to the various principles, models, theories, and paradigmsin the field of communication, which includes verbal and nonverbalcommunication, intrapersonal and interpersonal communication, groupcommunication, intercultural communication, and mass communication,with application to real-life situations. SSK2023 - Mass Media
Communicationhas been an essential aspect of our life since long ago up until todayand definitely tomorrow. No one can escape communicationl; be it inprint or electronic. This is an introductory course for students tounderstand the basic knowledge of mass media in the aspects of theirroles, functions, influences, potentials and many more. This coursewill enable students to comprehend the changes taking place in thehistory of communication globally. And throughout the semester,students will be given the opportunity to get a first hand experiencefrom visits to media institutions, looking at how they run etc.

國民大學的總學費
其實, 政府大學 80% 的學費是由政府承擔了.
所以三年的總學費才會在 RM 3000-RM5000
