KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--Crude palm oil futures on Malaysia's derivatives exchange set yet another record high in early afternoon trade, just a day after Malaysia's end-January palm oil stocks were estimated at an all-time high.
Traders said this isnt a paradox, and attributed the bullishness to a tight outlook for global vegetable oil balance in the medium term and severe damage to the rapeseed crop in China.
"Malaysian palm oil stocks are comfortable but there will be demand to meet deficit in (supply of) other oils," said a Kuala Lumpur-based official from a global trading house.
Traders consider record high soyoil prices supportive for crude palm oil futures.
"Price charts indicate we havent seen completion of the 5-wave impulsive sequence from the end of wave 4 correction at MYR3,150," Kuala Lumpur-based technical analyst Han Hong Kong said.
The collective psychology of CPO traders seems positive from price charts, and the upside of MYR3,525 computed on Jan. 30 is still intact, he said.
At 0730 GMT, the benchmark April contract on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives traded MYR85 higher at MYR3,445/ton after reaching an all-time high of MYR3,459/ton at 0711 GMT.
