Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he considered a move to sign Mario Balotelli before the controversial Italian striker signed for Manchester City.

'In 2010 I briefly flirted with the idea of signing Mario Balotelli, the talented but controversial Italian striker,' wrote Ferguson in his new book 'Leading'.
'I did my homework on him, speaking to a few Italian contacts, but the feedback I got confirmed it was too big a risk.
'I don't know whether this sort of candid professional courtesy exists in other fields, but for me it was a Godsend.'

But while Van Gaal speaks English, German and Spanish as well as his native Dutch, his French is limited and he needs the assistance of Les Bleus midfielder Schneiderlin and Belgium international Fellaini to talk to Martial.

"He cannot speak English, so I have to speak French with him and I need help with that from Fellaini and Schneiderlin," Van Gaal said in a news conference. "It is very difficult but he is willing to learn English so it is a matter of time, I think.
