SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old man, Jackson Yeoh, was charged on Thursday (Jan 21) for allegedly stealing a bag at the casino at Marina Bay Sands.
At about 8.45pm on Sep 2 last year, a casino patron's bag was stolen. The bag, a black clutch valued at S$1,000, also contained a driving licence, a BMW car key, credit cards, S$10,000 in cash, S$900,000 worth of casino chips, and a Samsung mobile phone worth S$500.
The total value of the items stolen was S$911,500.
Yeoh was then arrested in Malaysia with help from the Royal Malaysia Police, and was handed over to the Singapore police on Wednesday.
He was charged in court on Thursday for the offence of theft under section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces jail of up to three years, a fine, or both.
Yeoh has been remanded for one week, with permission to take him out for investigations. He is next due in court on Jan 28.
