The outermost electron configuration of element X is ns2np4 means that the element X has 6 valence electrons and is non-metal.Whereas,on the other hand, the outermost electron configuration of element Y is ns2np5 means that the element Y has 7 valence electrons and is non-metal.So,in conclusion, one X atom will share two of its valence electrons with one electron from each of the two Y atoms to form two single covalent bonds. The chemical formula of the newly-formed compound is XY2.The shape of this compound is V-shaped(Bent shaped).
