The curtain for the 2007 Beijing WTF World Taekwondo Championships has finally opened in the Changping Stadium. Nearly one thousand athletes will compete in the next five days.
The WTF World Taekwondo Championships are one of the three major international taekwondo events, and they are being held in Beijing for the first time.The Chinese national team will take part in all the events in the tournament. The squad included the Athens Olympic champions Chen Zhong and Luo Wei.
The tournament has attracted nearly 17 hundred athletes, coaches, and officials from 122 countries and regions: the biggest in the event's history.
The opening ceremony highlighted traditional Chinese culture and showed Taekwondo from a Chinese prospective.
The competition will begin on Friday.
