Taiwanese people with roots in "South China" refers to two distinct groups:
the Austronesian indigenous peoples, whose ancient ancestors likely migrated from the southeast China coast thousands of years ago, and Han Chinese settlers (like the Hoklo and Hakka), who migrated from various parts of southern China, such as Fujian and Guangdong, much more recently.
While the indigenous groups were the island's first inhabitants, Han migration began in later centuries, significantly impacting the island's demographics and culture.
