you just imagine two balls , one moving in positive direction ,and one moving in negative direction, when they collide, if the balls stick together and move , it is called non elastic collision,mean that the two balls combine and only have the same velocity, when a ball collide the other ball , the ball do not stick together , two can move in the same direction , but also can move  in opposite direction, it is called elastic ,mean that the balls have different velocity , and do not combine together . the most important , is whether they combine or not . note that velocity got direction , when you do calculation using momemtum formulae , refer your book , positive is + negative is -



why dont you ask your book about it , it is too risky to ask in internet
dont be meant to spend your money to buy reference books , dont read school textbook, you will only get b for spm

let me list a example ,  when you push a ball to collide with a static ball , what is the force needed to make a non elastic collision , mean to make the two ball combine together and move together in 10ms^-1 , neglect frictional force and air resistance, mass of ball A is 10kg , ball B is 20kg , give me your solution

remember , physic need lot of thinking , it is hard it is abstract,many memorize fact during spm , but when it come to stpm , you dont have a analytical mind , it is hard stpm physics , i dont know why i do lot of phy question during spm, and now i and not in engeneering, i deal with lot of document , i am in business,
