Still No Refund From Travel Firm Group Unable to Meet Agency Boss KUALA LUMPUR A group of holiday-makers seeking refunds for their cancelled tripto Shanghai, China, went home empty-handed afterthey failed to meet the travel agency’s manager. Leow Kim Pu, 59, who was one of the six peoplewho turned up at the agency’s office here for the refund, said they weresupposed to meet the manager yesterday. “But whenwe arrived, an employee told us that the manager was in a meeting. “We arevery frustrated because the worker acted as if they wanted to avoid meetingus,” he claimed, adding that he had even tried calling the manager severaltimes but there was no answer. Leow wasamong 23 people who lodged a report at Dang Wangi police station last week,alleging that they were not given a full refund totaling RM24,220 after theirtour was cancelled due to “technical errors”. The grouphad purchased the package from the agency during a Malaysia Association of Tourand Travel Agents (Matta) Fair in September last year. Anothertraveler, C.L. Ooi,58, claimed that although she had to pay RM870 per personfor her group of 13, she was not given a receipt despite her request for one. “We wereinformed by the agency that our flight was on 4 March. When we went to the agency’s office two daysbefore that, we were told that they had to cancel our flight due to technicalproblems faced by the airline involved,” she said. Mattasecretary-general Joseph Xavier said, the association had contacted the companyand that it had also initiated an investigation into the matter. Last week,newly appointed Matta president Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun advised travelers to beextra careful and read the fine print when purchasing tour packages that“promised the perfect holiday”.
