The Chosun Ilbo reports that South Korea has outranked Japan as China’s least favorite neighboring country:

In the survey of 12,000 Chinese people over the past four months by the International Herald Leader, a newspaper published by China’s official Xinhua News Agency, 40.1 percent of respondents said they dislike South Korea the most. Japan came in second place with 30.2 percent of the vote. The most-liked neighbor was Pakistan with 13.2 percent followed by Russia and Japan, the newspaper said.

Aha, this is funny. Maybe the Chinese are finally waking up to the fact that Koreans are really obnoxiously insecure about their country, being sandwiched between China and Japan for all of its history. I just love it when the Koreans boast that their country is actually "responsible" for the Chinese civilization and blah blah blah, and how the Koreans are the tallest East Asians which they take as the proof their their superiority. Bombast, chest-thumping, idle boasts, and sheer in-your-face attitude tend to get on people's nerves. If I were the Koreans, I'd be more careful, since there is no ocean between China and Korea. Chihuahuas love to bark, don't they.

Oh, one more thing. My Chinese friends tell me that they mostly don't like Korean men. The reason? Well, they are wife-beaters, which the Chinese look down upon as the lowest form of cowardice.

I have a Korean friend. She said that the only solid reason why South Korea is so messed up is:
1. Kim Gu (the Korean "Gandhi" in politics) was assassinated by a Korean associated with American government.
2. Rhee Syngmang became a president for opening ground for pro-American dictatorship that was never democratic for decades.
I can understand why South Koreans don't even like America in the first place.
Consider that the whole "protest culture" in today's South Korea is stemmed from anti-American thoughts, not anti-Japan.

wow 12,000 chinese people thats a small percentage of the chinese population and add to that 40.1% of that 12,000 people dislike Korean. What so 40.1% of the 12,000 people represent the whole of the chinese population. ¬¬ what a great way to headline this poll making the chinese look bad.

Uh, statistics doesn't work like that.
If your sample size is 12000 out of 1.3 billion, then your margin of error is 0.89% with a 95% confidence level.
That means, if this same survey was done 100 times, 95 times out of that, the results are going to fall approximately between 41.0% and 39.2%.

South Korea's failing is that they decided to deal with China in the same way as they've been doing with Japan.
Browbeating-chest-pounding-flag-burning/eating-bombastic rhetoric only keeps on working (or maybe I should say does not significantly affect negatively) when it's used against a mostly apathetic populace like the Japanese.

韩国的错误就在于他们打算用同样的方法跟中国交往，就像他们跟日本一样。

i am an overseas korean residing somewhere in southeast asia and among the south koreans, the japanese and the chinese I dislike chinese the most, except for my chinese friends. Why? Because chinese who go and stay here are filthy, smell strange and act like they are mildly retarded. They kiss the asses of the locals and steal their technology. Not stereotyping because i know there are nice chinese out there but hate them in general.
The japanese are ok. Very professional and friendly. except for the ones who slaughtered countless non-japanese asians.

This is a typical smart asx Korean behavior in the above comment. They have no originality and always practice what they call "uriginal bench-marking" (a.k.a. copy-cat). They are singlehandedly most hated people in Asia, possibly in the world as well.

I'm in full agreement. Most Chinese and Japanese hate them for a very good reason. Just the men though. It's because they're subhuman garbage and not much better than plankton. The women are alright. I've screwed many and they always tell me how the men can't measure up.

I meant to say slightly over 50% of Britons look at US in a negative way and from there it goes down hill. With a new president this could ofcource change.
"Listen every society has it’s good and its bad. To say a whole nation of people are good or bad is pure ignorance."
Some countries have more idiots than others though. A key barometer for me is democracy. If you have an idiot running a country chances are high that there are lots of idiots in that country. In CHina it is hard to tell because there is no freedom of speech and democracy. The people are oppressed. SInce the people are oppressed by the government it is in the interest of the government that the people use their energy and anger on someone else than their own government.

Another thing came into my mind: China vs. Japan vs. Korea antagonism has many benefits for the current world power, America. Lack of harmony in some regions in the world brings the current world power's presence important.

Koreans and Japanese are nice people and have many similarities, and I don't think that both really hate each other because both love to share their stuff togueter, but I cannot tell about Chinese because they don't have any notion of what is Japan or Korea in reality. That is so true that they tell always the same stupid thing over and over again. you can tell this difference here in Japan.
Even though Koreans are not treated so fairly in Japan and they hate the governments' decision many times, they use their brain better than Chinese in a way that they will not launch a rock or eggs to a Japanese citizen who do not have anything to do with politician's poor decision. Chinese come to Japan and they act like they are in their country and show no respect to Japanese culture. Besides that seems to not care about Japanese laws and their citizens. I personally would rather having more Koreans coming to Japan and learn how Japanese are nice and kind, and not the way how Korean and chinese media tell that is based on negative thing about Japan.

韩国人和日本人都不错，他们也有很多相似之处，我觉得他们其实并不是真得讨厌彼此，因为他们常常分享资源，但是我拿不准中国人，因为中国人压根就对现实中的韩国和日本没啥概念。中国人总是炒冷饭，日本人就不一样了。
即使韩国人常常在日本受到不公正待遇，也很讨厌日本政府的决策，但他们还是动脑子想办法，总比中国人向无辜的日本市民丢石子砸鸡蛋强，再说日本市民跟政府决策没啥关系。中国人在日本就像在自己的地盘一样，完全无视日本本土文化。除此之外，中国人也无视日本法律法规，连日本市民也不放在眼里。我个人希望多一些韩国人亲自来日本，了解一下亲切友好的日本人，希望大家不会受到韩国和中国媒体的误导，只知道日本负面的消息。

It's all a matter of perspective and what aspect of "culture" you're talking about.
Japan and Korea are questionably successful modern capitalist and (supposedly) democratic "western" societies, meaning many parallels in everyday sensibilities in economy and human rights. The language syntax is strikingly similar, and there are some parallels in vocabulary too. Japan annexed Korea for a couple decades in the last century so and may have influenced Korean culture during that time. They can also be contrasted with China, a nuclear power with regional hegemonic ambitions.
China and Korea were once master and vassal state and connected by land until about a century ago. Their behavior shares a lot of patterns from Japan's perspective, including placing an inordinate value on history, as well as a culture that is very lax on copying and pirating the work of others. They also seem to be a more passionate group of people than Japan. As much as they hate each other, they seem to put up an alliance of convenience when bashing on Japan.
China and Japan were distant master and vassal a millennia and a half ago and still are regional rivals. Japan borrowed a lot of advanced cultural aspects like Buddhism and Kanji from China and used it as a springboard for their own development. They say in those days, the Japanese used to be able to communicate with the Chinese using written dialogue even if the spoken language was completely different.

Chinese and Japanese are the most similar because the Japanese and Chinese characters are almost the same, because the japanese copied the Chinese writing style. Also japanese and chinese sound the most similar then korean/chinese and korean/japanese.

“哈”的在14亿中国人中占多少？现在可是有很多年少无知时候“哈韩日”的长大成熟后完全看不起当今世界硕果仅存的2大殖民地；日本本国的民航客机起飞都需要美军的点头；韩国至今维护国家安全的军队的战时指挥权还握在美国人手里。

更不要说日韩有大量的美军驻扎美其名曰：是保护日韩（拥有过亿人口世界第三大经济体日本和拥有近5千万人口的世界第15大经济体的韩国需要美国的保护）；实质是占领日韩；这些驻日韩的美军并非是免费的吆；日韩每年要向美国爸爸上缴数百亿美元的保护费吆
