7th April 2013, Sunday
On this day evening, my girlfriend and I went to Esplanad Seafood & Dim Sum at Aked Esplanad Bukit Jalil for our dinner. I had bought two cash vouchers (each worth of RM30) earlier from Living Social Malaysia website, and this is the second time I visit them thinking to use up the 2nd cash voucher I left.
During our first visit earlier, we found out the dishes served were relatively smaller portion and the charges are expensive. Thus this time, we decided not to inform the waitress that we are using the cash voucher until we call for the bill. After all, it was not stated in the voucher that we have to inform the restaurant prior to ordering.
After getting our seat, I asked for a menu from the supervisor (the lady in video) but she told me they don’t have a menu. At that point of time, I couldn’t recall if I were given a menu in my first visit. Without thinking too much, we decided to order without the menu. We order a Yong Zhao Fried Rice, a taufu and a vegetable which we went it will surely cost more than RM30.
The dishes are relatively bigger in portion compared to our first visit and we end up cannot finish all and had to take away the fried rice.
When I called for the bill, one of the foreign waiters handed over me the bill with the following charges, which I think it is reasonable.
Yong Zhao Fried Rice – RM12
Taufu – RM15
Vegetable – RM12
Total – RM39
I then pass him the cash voucher with another RM10 for the balance. While I was expecting my change, the foreign waiter came back with the receipt (amended) as the following charges.
Yong Zhao Fried Rice – RM16
Taufu – RM18
Vegetable – RM15
Total RM49 + 5% Service charges = RM51.45
I immediately call up the supervisor for an explanation. She told me they will charge different (more expensive) if we are using the cash voucher and if I had told her I’m using the cash voucher, she would have pass me the menu (with the price set higher than normal)
I end up had to pay RM51.45 in order to leave in peace.
Although I have raised a complaint to Living Social Malaysia, they only answered it was the right of the merchant to set the price of their F&B.
I am here sharing this to illustrate the few following point:
1. Esplanad Seafood & Dim Dum is practicing double standard pricing. They will charge you more expensive if you bought the cash voucher from Living Social Malaysia. We do not really enjoy the stated discount given by purchasing the cash voucher.
2. If a consumer had informed Esplanad Seafood & Dim Sum prior ordering, the food given will be of smaller portion too.
3. Despite knowing the fact that the merchant is exploiting on consumer, Living Social Malaysia is still supporting these merchants to take advantage of consumer.
Online purchase is a norm when I studied overseas years ago. It is a convenient platform for new age consumer and I will not stop this practice despite the poor experience I have with Living Social Malaysia and Esplanad Seafood & Dim Sum.
Nevertheless, I would be careful in my future purchase and will never ever buy it from Living Social Malaysia for sure.

楼上的。。你第一次买Voucher用吗??
你写 -》 Thus this time, we decided not to inform the waitress that we are using the cash voucher until we call for the bill.。。 你因该一开始就告诉店员你是用 voucher 的。。 应该 Term& Condition 每个是讲Show B4 order 的对吧。。你是开始有意欺骗别人在先吧。。还强讲别人骗你 @@‘
--》 Although I have raised a complaint to Living Social Malaysia, they only answered it was the right of the merchant to set the price of their F&B. 这也是他们订的价钱表。。只怪你没有show出你的 Voucher 咯。。
下次小心使用吧。。。
