学生：Mini visited us when we were having dinner yesterday.
师傅：记得，说英语的时候，我冲凉，不是 I take shower, 而是 I take MY shower...他们吃饭,不是 they take dinner而是they take THEIR dinner....所以，以上的句子都缺了OUR..

㊣ I take shower 不正确，我同意，但并非一定得说 I take MY shower，可以说 I take a shower
㊣ 至于 they were having dinner 看不出哪里错了，不知道为什么非得说 they were having THEIR dinner...... 为什么非得加入 their 才正确？
㊣ 至于 they take THEIR dinner 我倒有意见了， take dinner 是本地土产“英语”，吃早午餐可以说 eat 或 have breakfast/lunch/dinner，但不说 take break/lunch/dinner，请尽量避免。服药则可以说 take medicine

take dinner 是本地土产“英语”，吃早午餐可以说 eat 或 have breakfast/lunch/dinner，但不说 take break/lunch/dinner，请尽量避免。

风满楼先生，用take是没问题的，因为我查过字典了，take的解释有吃；喝；服（药等）的意思在里面，而且我查的这本字典里也给了一个这样的例子：take dinner  about  six （六时左右吃晚餐）。
所以用take也没错的。

师傅：第一，在用虽然[though, although 和even though] 的时候，“但是”是不应该用but的。。。。应该说 yet 哦。。。
例如， Even though she is rather busy, yet she promised us an interview.
Although he is quite shy, yet he is rather friendly.

although..., but... 是不正确的用法，赞同，可是
although..., yet... ，那不是回到上面那句的原点......

我用的是《新英汉大词典》增补本，上海译文出版社出版的。
据它的《前言》介绍，这本字典收入了西方资本注意社会政治、生活等方面的常见词语。
这是一本蛮厚的字典，不可能误导人吧？

建议使用英文版本的词典，他们时常会更新，编写也比较严谨。
很多线上中英文词典（线下中英文词典我不清楚，没用过）都有这种问题：到处收录不同词典的发音定义，比较混杂。

上面链接的那个讨论中，有个留言者说：
Taking a meal is old fashioned in my part of the world. I have seen it used in literature, so it is not wrong.
相信大概是这种状况......

应该是这种情形吧，这个留言者都说“ 不是错误的”，所以用 take也不能说是不正确的。

我觉得把那个upon改成 at就可能好点，就是 we  are  delighted  at  your  arrival。
再举个例子：we  are  delighted  at  the  news（听到这消息，我们很兴奋），所以 we  are  delighted  at  your  arrival应该也是同样的解释。

风满楼先生，我说你不必觉得怪，很多时候是因为我们不常使用，因为我们不是来自英语源流的国家，好些句子我们当然觉得怪，但不代表它们是错误的英文。

我举个例子：what's  eating  you？

这个句子是美国人用的，意思是“ 你怎么啦？” 可能我们新加坡、马来西亚比较常用的是 “what's  wrong  with  you?” ，一听到 what's  eating  you就楞住了，可是的确是有这样的讲法啊，这是英语源流国家普遍使用的，我们这里的人听不惯或没听过就说它怪。

我不是指这种怪，这个可以理解，不同地方有不同的俚语或用词，但很多本地人喜欢胡乱自创一格，往往不符合语法，用词不当......等，已抛离了英语可接纳的范围......我指的是这个......

至于 at about Seven 还是 about Seven，这个也曾见过各种说法，有人说不可以说 at about，但似乎很多人都那么用......
