Don't trust SMS, official results only from EC; says chairman

KUCHING: The Election Commission has advised voters not to be influenced by results for certain constituencies that have been posted on websites and sent via SMS since noon.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof reminded them that only results from the commission were official, conveyed by the 71 returning officers.

“I am told that results were being sent via SMS and posted on the Internet, claiming victory for certain parties in certain areas. This information cannot be trusted. Only information from EC sources is valid,” he told reporters here.

As of 1pm, Abdul Aziz said, 1,038 or nearly two-thirds of polling stations have been closed, most of them in interior and rural areas. Although these polling stations had been closed, some of them as early as 9am, the counting of votes could only start at 12.30pm, he said. Abdul Aziz was certain that the turnout would exceed 50% in the afternoon.

“Up to 1pm, I received information from 11 (of ther 71) constituencies that 43% of voters have cast their ballot. This means 10% of the electorate of each area voting every hour,” he said.

选委会主席丹斯里阿都阿兹说，只有选委会公佈的成绩才是合法的，因为选委会是根据它所委任71个选举官提供的信息而公佈。
他今日指出：“我被告知许多人通过短讯和网络方式宣称某个政党已经在个別选区胜出的消息。这些都是不確实的信息，只有选委会的消息才是合法的。
他说，至下午1时为止，只有三分二或1千零38个投票中心已经关闭，而大多数都是位於內陆和乡村地区。
